Officiating in the ACC

This has been a problem long before SU joined the conference and Swofford doesn't care about fixing it. Next to the PAC 12, the ACC is recognized for having the worst officials in the country. It's a basketball league that's trying to be a football league at the same time and the product (officiating) reflects that. It isn't a priority.
^^^This^^^. They say when you play an away OOC game your refs will "protect" you. After 64 years, we're still waiting for that to happen in fb and bball.

What they say about the Pac-12 is also true. We lost a chance to beat USC-w in LA because the PAC-12 refs made really bad penalty call that didn't follow the rulebook. Our coach had a copy in his pocket because he knew they'd make the wrong call, but they still wouldn't pick up the flag after being shown the rule. The incident got the whole crew suspended for a week by the PAC-12 front office after they reviewed the tape. Lot of good it did us.

That's strange. Usually the refs come from the visiting team's conference.

For that series with USC-w, for some reason both teams agreed to have the home team supply the refs. I have less than zero idea why that was done.

The incident - On 4th down with about 2 or 3 minutes left, we lined up in punt formation on USC-w's 45 or so. However, we ran a fake with the punter throwing a pass to a wide open receiver for what should have been a first down. The penalty flag was thrown because the 3 back guys in punt formation did Georgia Tech-like cut blocks to knock the rushers down so the "punter" would have a clear field of view of the receiver. It's against the rules for those guys to do a cut block on a punt, but obviously not on a fake punt. the PAC-12 crew wouldn't pick up the flag even after they were shown the rulebook. We lost 17-14.
