You Grade the Orange: Rate the Syracuse football team's performance against Clemson (PS: Murray)

Great effort. Better than most will do at Death Valley. Wish they didn't boo the injured players, but overall, I don't think the team played SO poorly, all things considered. Out-athleted all over the place. Really should have been respectable, but held them to fewer points than they've scored all year. Better than anyone else can say, no matter what the circumstances. Watson will ball next year, but who knows, maybe AJ takes a big step next year (or Hunt).

Shafer apologizes to the fans, gets amped as he says "we're gonna get there. We're gonna beat these teams eventually."

Shafer calls Death Valley a "pretty special place." Gives credit to the Clemson defense and the fans.

Shafer says there were times AJ Long looked like an 18 year-old kid, but says "[Long] fought his butt off."

Locker room was "pretty upset" after the game. Believed they could win the game, especially after halftime.

Presser over. Very positive and encouraged vibe from Coach Shafer despite the loss. Clearly can't wait to get the team over the hump.

What we learned in the ACC: Week 9 (ESPN)

Clemson's defense is frightening. The offense hasn't done much in Deshaun Watson's absence, but the Tigers have managed to win their last three games behind a defense that has utterly smothered the opposition. Clemson manhandled Syracuse, holding the Orange to their lowest yardage total since 2008 and racking up 12 tackles for loss along the way. In its last four games, Clemson's defense has allowed just three touchdowns, given up an average of just 3.5 yards per play and recorded 40 tackles for loss.
