Class of 2019 QB Michael Johnson Jr (OR) TRANSFERRING TO SYRACUSE (5/9/24)

Cuz Mom didn't want them around those downstate girls. ;-)

Well, Downstate girls are hip
I really dig those styles they wear
And Southern Tier girls with the way they talk
They knock me out when I'm down there
The Lockport farmer's daughters
Really make you feel alright
And the Northern girls with the way they kiss
They keep their boyfriends warm at night

I wish they all could be Onondaga girls

Just committed, per Mike M.
He was considered a 4 star recruit in HS. ESPN had him as the 199th best prospect in the country in the class of 2018.

Was an Under Armor All American. Went to Penn State initially. Dual threat QB who is a very good athlete. 4.58 40.

Has never found success at the college level.

Michael had what appears to be his first real playing time at FAU in 2023.

He attempted one pass and it was incomplete.

He returned 2 KOs.

And he had 23 rushing attempts. Averaged 6.1 ypc. Nice.

But the number that caught my eye were the 7 TDs on 23 carries.

He actually finished 7th in the American conference in rushing touchdowns. With 23 carries.

Now even though I was on the FAU campus for the Boca Bowl, I did not see Michael or FAU play then or at any point last season. But I assume he was a red zone specialist who had a knack for getting in the end zone, and this is how he got most of his carries (and his TDs). And if that is true, it is interesting.

Good speed, has potential. I trust the coaches on what they see.

If the thought is a redzone specialist that is sort of interesting. Does seem to make more sense with our #1 option being McCord at QB who is not at all a runner. But then again why not stick Villari in that roll? I guess he would certainly be a different style runner than Villari.
