Kentucky coach quoted as well;

Last month, Kentucky wide receivers coach Tommy Mainord explained the enormous impact that the Wildcats' fan base is having on recruiting. – “You can't imagine when you're recruiting a kid out of high school and his twitter account jumps a thousand people in 2 hours because the fans found out who he was."

the Vols have secured twenty-three commitments so far including one 5-star, eight 4-stars, fourteen 3-stars, and one 2-star prospect. While high school talent in the state of Tennessee is better than publicized, only 5 of 24 commitments come from in-state players, so the Vols have gone to GA, OH, CA, TX, FL, DC, MD, VA, IL, and IN to secure commitments.
The question is: How has first-year head coach Butch Jones and his coaching staff been able to overcome a major lack of success in the program since 2007, the last time the Vols won ten games and competed for an SEC championship, to earn the #1 overall recruiting ranking?
In short, it's a group of coaches working together on the same page. It's Butch Jones' attitude and endless passion to connect with the Vols' fan base to restore the pride in what Jones calls "one of the most storied programs in all of college football."
It's Jones' demand that all of his coaches effectively utilize social media. It's a marketing team that is willing to constantly spread Jones' message and capture what make the Vols' head coach and his philosophy unique.

Ive always lked butch jones. He is one of the few coaches I didnt mind losing too in the Big Least. He will do well at Tennessee. Get them back to a consistent top 5 team in the SEC. You can say what you want to say about MCDonald and Eric White. They deserve alot of credit for their recruiting efforts, but lets not forget who made the decision to get those guys in our program and give them the green light with social media. My man Shafer know this is the direction college ball is going.

Jones will be fired within three years. Imo he's a mediocre college head coach. Rode on Brian Kelly's coat tails with two programs. Now has to turn around a program with an impatient fanbase in the toughest conference in the nation. Yeah, good luck with that.

ouch!!!!!!

Well, I just remember that huge thread about the one kid and people couldn't wrap their heads around the idea that it doesn't matter if middle-aged men think it's stupid, if college football prospects use Twitter as a source of information about the school they want to play for and their future fans, maybe there's something to it to evaluate instead of just mock.

Thank goodness Cool Kid McDonald and Boy Wonder White are on our side now and have shown the dinosaurs some light.

Very possible. His great signings out the gate are really helping win the fans over, many thought that recruiting would be his weakness. The expectations are incredibly low this year, the schedule includes Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Florida and Oregon - all almost guaranteed losses, but that also means he'll be expected to have a big turn around next season. I heard an interesting stat on the radio yesterday - no SEC coach has ever won the conference with less than 9 wins in his second season. That bodes well for James Franklin at Vandy but puts heavy pressure on Butch in year 2.

Stoops gets it. Even if it is a minor, and largely unenforceable NCAA violation, many recruits like the attention they get from twitter fans

Know a 4-star recruit who wasn't feeling a school because its fans didn't give him much twitter love compared to his other choices.

Other fanbases do as well, but those three schools have fans who are especially active in getting at recruits, it seems. Just my observation
