- We’ve now won 8 of 9 and are close to putting the bubble in the rear view mirror. We are playing well for really the first time in two years. And it feels good.
- Our spacing has become excellent and ti opens up the game so players can make some moves and good passes. Obviously making outside shots helps but even in the first half when we missed 10 of 13 threes, we have a run of spectacular possessions in which everything we did seemed to work.
- Tyler Lydon had his best game yet, (actually I thought the last one was his best game yet- and it was).He scored 20 points on 8 for 12 shooting and had 6 rebounds. He also hustled after loose balls, (including hitting the deck) and kept the ball moving.
- Tyler Roberson quietly had a strong game with 9 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. But the impressive thing is that he committed no fouls and had no turnovers in 36 minutes.
- Mal Richardson didn’t shoot well inside the arc, (1 for 6) but did everything else well and had 15 points and 5 assists. Many of the more spectacular players involved him on one end or the other. Jimmy Salatin pointed out that we were being led in the game by two freshmen. If that still meant that they would be here for four years, that would be really encouraging.
- Michael Gbinije had 17 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. And it didn’t even seem like he was doing anything exceptional. That’s because that’s his normal game.
- Trevor Cooney was not outstanding, (see Milon’s numbers for “outstanding”) but he did score 12 points, grab 3 rebounds, pass for 3 assists and make two steals.
- Franklin Howard made a couple of mistakes and rode the bench in the second half but he had 3 assists in his 11 minutes of play. He loves those one-handed passes, even if the coaches don’t.
