Because nobody wants to wear a "slow" number in the 50's-70's.
I don't care much either way. It does occasionally confuse me on special teams. Of course I am the dork that watches games with a roster in one hand (beer in the other).I guess sometimes they use it as a bargaining chip in recruiting. In any case, I respect your opinion but it doesn't bother me in the least if Eric Dungey and Wayne Morgan both wear #2. I know who wears #2 when SU is on offense and when SU is on defense.
