Crowd was a little less than 4K. The feeling was it could have been doubled had the game started at 7 PM instead of 6 PM. A major rainstorm hit Syracuse 45 minutes before the game and surely discouraged a number of other fans from attending.
SU fell behind badly early, hampered again by an inability to win faceoffs. They made a good comeback to get it back to 6-6 by shooting the ball really well. The Cornell goalie did not make a save until SU had already scored 6 goals.
Megill did a great job on Pannell from the 2nd quarter on. Just dominated him. Daddio got schooled in the faceoff circle in the first half but early in the 2nd half, he made a breakthough and started to win faceoffs consistently. That was the beginning of the end for the Big Red.
MVP of the game was West Genny grad Chuck Cometti, who had 4 goals and was really clutch down the stretch. Morasco ran the offense well. Henry Schoonmaker played almost the entire game as SU was shorthanded at the midfield position, especially after Loy turned his ankle and was unable to return to useful action. Hamlin, Ianzito, Macartney, etc.. were very good against a high powered Cornell attack. Lamolinara did not play well most of the game but was solid in the 4th quarter. He really needs to work on improving his clears...several attempts were near disasters.
Cornell brought a big contingent and their band. They sang that Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh song for long periods of the game. They also did an ", S U" chant a few times. Classy. We might well see them again in the Final Four. Look forward to the rematch.
