- Michigan’s personnel seems similar to Indiana, who we dominated and who beat the Wolverines twice this year. The six foot guard, the big man inside. Several good three point shooters. But we handled it all against the Hoosiers and we’ll handle it all against the Wolverines, too.
- Trey Burke won’t be able to tell the forest for the trees.
- Nik Stauskas won’t be able to guard James Southerland, who is 2 inches taller and more athletic. But Southerland can guard him.
- Because Michigan can’t afford to take a guy off of Southerland, we can drive to the basket on his side all night long on his side. How is the 6-0 Burke going to stop either the 6-6 MCW or the 6-4 Triche?
- And how are they going to deal with that and stop CJ Fair?
- Devonte Gardner was not such a problem the second time we played Marquette. He a good couple of minutes in the first half and after that we took him out of the game. And Cody Zeller was 3 for 11 from the field against us. Mr. McGary will have company wherever he goes.
- Those Indiana three point guys, (three in the starting lineup were in the mid 40’s in 3 point field goal percentage) went 3 for 15 from out there while we were handling Zeller inside. We’ve been blocking an amazing number of outside jump shots. And if you block one, you’ve essentially blocked a few more because the shooter will be thinking about it. In another thread there was a stat that 58 of the 91 treys launched against us have been “contested” and only 8 of them went in. But only 6 of the 33 “uncontested” shots went in. When so many shots are contested, the other team tends to rush the ones that aren’t and miss them, too.
- Everybody talks about Michigan’s offense vs. our zone. I think they will have problems with it but I think the bigger issue will be stopping us. If you look at our points per possession, it’s not bad. It’s just that teams take so long to get a shot off vs. the zone, (Marquette had a 6 minutes stretch where they couldn’t get a shot off) and Syracuse has been patient so our games have featured fewer possessions than other games and that has held the score down.
- Even if we have a dry spell, it doesn’t seem to hurt us much because of our defense. You win games by out-scoring the other team but defense keeps you in games so you always have a chance to win them.
- Kansas was large and in charge vs. Michigan until they relaxed at the end. If we don’t lose our intensity, (and we shouldn’t in a Final Four game), we should win easily.
