Quarterfinal action has concluded and four Atlantic Coast Conference teams have advanced to semifinal play, as No. 1 seed North Carolina is set to take on fifth-seeded Notre Dame and No. 2 seed Duke will take on sixth-seeded Syracuse. 2014 Tewaaraton finalist Kayla Treanor is one of the most decorated players to ever put on a Syracuse jersey, as she proved just how valuable she is in the Orange’s 14-13 overtime against Boston College in the ACC quarterfinals. A team that held her scoreless earlier this spring could not do the same, as the All-American notched five points (3g, 2a) to lead Syracuse — including the game-winner. Treanor will lead Syracuse’s charged against Duke tomorrow afternoon.
Despite being two of the most storied programs in the history of the sport, Duke and Syracuse have squared off just two times against one another in program history. Last season’s regular season win over the Blue Devils, 19-15, marked the first time that the Orange had ever faced Duke, and the Blue Devils responded this spring by dropping the Orange, 10-9.
