I dont think it is as much about encouraging TD's as it is trying to eliminate the 15 yard completion and kick a FG ending.

The one thing i dont get is why they wouldn't make it the regular season OT rules first since you would get way more attempts to see how it plays over multiple games.

The NFL does not want college style OT where teams can score forever in OT. Basically a td is checkmate. I like this alot atm and would like to see more of it to see other more reasonable outcomes. Not sure i can say this way sucks when i have only seen a 1 play fluke outcome as my only example.
