one of these running backs and become a go to guy, way too much subbing, in and out nonsense. It's like watching a kid's soccer game where everybody has to play. 2 running backs, 4 wide receivers, work ( Bris and Broyld and be done with it. I hate all the subs in and out in and out. We have 6-7 receivers, 2 have to step up and get the majority of the catches. The pace of play isn't that GD fast.

If our offense can stay on the field and our defense can get off it, the subbing will be needed and make a lot more sense.

I get that it's different for people to see, since in the past few years we've really only had a handful of talents so they were on the field the whole game, but having a variety of skill players that contribute has a lot of benefit. Not only can you expect to catch defenses in an occasional mismatch, you also force teams to prepare for a wider variety of skills. You keep guys fresh, and you can sell recruits on contributing sooner.

Let's see how things shake out with this CMU game.

Yep. A lot of it's predicated on actually going fast - which we didn't do last game. Hopefully we see a truer representation of what McDonald is trying to do vs CMU. The weather may play a part - if it's rainy with a slow muddy field - maybe we slow down again.

It should depend on the flow of the game. But I definitely think 4 RBs getting run is way too much, no one can get into a flow. Pick 2, and then if needed, have a situational guy, like AAM for goal line.

I wish we had as many defensive linemen as we have WRs.

I wouldn't care how many WRs we play if we had a group of dynamic playmakers who interchangably made things happen when they get the ball. I think we've only got 2-3 of those guys, so playing 8 just to sub guys in and out and keep them fresh doesn't make a lot of sense.

Until we can actually run a series with more than 2-3 runs in it the RB doesn't matter.

The key to this game is going to be the D. Shut down the running game and we will get our points. I don't need to see Oregon or Baylor on the O, just move the ball consistently and give the D time to rest. I also think they are going to try and test our secondary early to see if they can get some big plays.

I agree.

Our players seem to spend most of their time trying to figure if they're in or they're out for a given play.

I noticed that our DTs were getting more winded running - sprinting! - on and off the field every play - than by actually playing.

Unbelievable.

How do you develop a rhythm with that kind of substitution strategy.

Let the guys stay in the game for awhile and get the feel of the game and the flow of play.

i was amused by how we simplified our play calling and so many kids looked confused before every play?

Did they? I thought they looked pretty organized, but that's hard to tell when you're watching on ESPN3 on your laptop.

There were a lot of moving parts - not disorganized but hectic.

that's why we throw all the bubble screens. keep those WR right near the sideline so they can sub in and out that much faster. if you throw down the middle of the field, they'll have to run so far to take a seat. it's brilliant!

I agree. Play is far too choppy. Nobody seems in rhythm. Sometimes more isn't better. Plus like you said we aren't even going that fast. We can get by with 2, maybe 3 backs, and 4-5 wr's.
