1 down, 1 to go

What is the A+ solution for the QB situation? Did we just land a transfer?

A very good, dual threat SEC QB, former 4 star. Looks similar in many ways to Dungey, played against elite competition as a true frosh. 3 years to play, I believe.

Agree on Red / Froumy -- that's why I'm confident that we'll actually have a solid TWO-deep next year. Tisdale started 3/4 of this season, and he's likely a bench guy next year, along with these two.

The big question for me is: who starts at center? Vet? Servais? Ialoa? Froumy? Some new guy?

Figuring out this is the key to next year's OL, IMO. If Servais doesn't shift inside, then he locks in at RT. Otherwise, RT becomes a need.

Servais was the worst center in America 2 years ago. Why in the world repeat that? He's the only center I've ever seen get blown past before he gets out of his stance without laying a finger on the defender multiple times in 1 season. He was terrible. I do not get the infatuation with him. He was awful at center 2 years ago, he was awful at LT last season, many times getting beaten on a pass rush before he got out of his stance.

His last good season was the 10 win season. If he's been THAT hurt, then he shouldn't have been playing. Other guys should have gotten that shot.

Who is infatuated with him at center?

I wonder who the first “modern era” college football team will be to go out and recruit an entire dream team. You know it’s coming.

I feel very confident that our coaches have a strong indication of what current players will be staying and what current players will be leaving the program , my guess is a few more underclassmen will leave the for one reason or another and that obviously will free up more scholarships. I am also quite confident that the available scholarships we have will be used mainly on Portal / JC impact players and maybe a couple of quality high school players who might decommit from the schools they initially committed to, the best news so far is the commitment from QB. Garrett Shrader hopefully he makes a major impact on our program , tomorrow is christmas wouldn't it be great if we get an unexpected gift like a stud ( DT )

No, you didn't read what I intended. He was terrible at center.

The infatuation comment was in general. To me, he was clearly our worst - or at least our most exposed - offensive lineman each of the last 2 seasons; the guy who gave up the most visible, memorable, truly awful sacks, like he was a wooden statute. That bad that you don't forget them.

That's what I'm talking about. The idea that this kid who can't walk is better than any of the other guys behind him, when the eyes make it very clear to the average viewer that he's playing really, really poorly.

Maybe he could be All ACC, but after 2 years of bad injuries and his performance on the field, I'll take a guy who just makes most of his blocks and doesn't get the QB hurt on the blindside.

So you’re saying I’m over stating your position, while saying “he can’t walk”

I’m out on a ledge here. I’ll say he probably had his best year two years ago - but that he, given his maturity plus some 9 months will be ready to contribute. I think you have to honor his commitment to the program and root like he’ll for him to come through. What other options are there?

I don't know why people think we solved our QB issue with a QB who lost the starting QB position at MS St. and was so low on the QB depth chart was switched to WR. I hope people are right but it seems to me the hopes don't match with the facts.

It’s because they changed their system from when he was recruited. There’s a strong possibility under the old coaching staff he would have been the starter. Leach came in and went into the portal for a qb that fit his system. Similar to what Gilbert just did in getting DT qbs. Not sure if he’ll end up being the starter but it’s clear Gilbert not looking for a pocket passer.

That would be interesting to see and tough to pull off. There is so much choreography to football that putting together an entire team from all new players coming from different places that could function seems so unlikely. I think it's more likely in basketball.

I’m thinking like top QB, a top RB, a couple of top WRs, and a couple of top defensive players. Not necessarily 22 guys. You know it’s coming.

Maybe when Cal leaves Kentucky he’ll switch to football and head down that path.

Other options??...well get a better player, problem solved. If the coaches truly believe that he is one of the best linemen on the team then SU offense is in for another long season.

Just like that? We just put an ad in the paper or something?

You’re asking the wrong question. It’s not “do they consider him one of the best linemen on the team” it’s “can we get someone better?” A bird in hand, etc
