#1 Miami at #8 Cuse, 1992 Showdown

Miami's defense was a nightmare for us that game. In the first half we had a grand total of one first down and -1 total yards.

Graves ended up 13-24 for 145 yards, and then 28 rushes for 19 yards (which included a loss of 57 yards on nine sacks).
Touche. I selectively only remember that 4th quarter.

We did so much better once we started punching them in the mouth with the FBs up the middle. Then the option opened up.

We tried to attack the middle in the first half as well, but it wasn’t working. Deleone switched to a trap blocking scheme at halftime to take advantage of the Miami aggressiveness.

We used to make fun of how multiple P&D were, but the level of discipline required by their linemen is light years ahead of our current scheme… if we even have one.

A bunch of tough, mean guys coached by one of the best ever. This group, not so much.

Reagan Tuten, Bull, Adams, Sharpe, Wisdom. There isn’t one of them that isn’t a starter this year.

The listed weights were surprising. Our LT was 260 lbs. Miami's LT was 236 lbs!

I noticed the same thing. Nuts.

IMO, average college/NFL teams from today would completely handle top tier college/NFL teams from 30 years ago. I think the skill positions are probably relatively similar, but the difference in size/athleticism/physicality on the offensive and defensive lines are just night and day.
