105 MPH Gust Of Wind Hit The Carrier Dome

It came through Rochester around 8:45pm and knocked power out for a couple hours in Chili. Don't think the gusts got higher than about 55mph though. We had the candles out like a rock concert!

I'm shocked that my place didn't lose power, but driving home from the city around 11 p.m was awful

At 7:45 last night, it sounded like a freight train was coming in northeast of Brockport. I did not see any damage this morning, however.

cheye-leye

cheye-leye

An even worse pronunciation of a city's name than Skaneateles. Although it's always entertaining to watch people not familiar with the area try and pronounce it. (Skaneateles that is)

Was I right? My brother used to live there and I think that is how it is pronounced.

The local town that gets a lot of interpretations, usually national news people or new locals.

Pulaski...either Pulas-sky or Pulas-skee...central NY it's Pulas-sky. Michigan or someplace it's Pulas-skee.

Indeed, it is Chie-Lie. However, I often wonder when driving through Rochester, is Child St. pronounced Chilled St. ?

Close enough I think. I'm not from Rochester, and actually just learned of the pronunciation of it this past summer.

In Russia, it's pronounced Mos-COW. In Idaho, it's pronounced Mos-COE

And in New York it is pronounced CAR-mel. While in Califiornia, it is pronounced Car-MELL

I live in Pulaski and we are the only ones to my knowledge that pronounce it "Sky"
Here is another one Cairo. Cairo Illinois says "Kay-RO" not "Caye-ro"
And yes, Chili NY is "Chaye-Lye"

The largest gust of wind I ever encountered in an open space, high atop the 16th hole at Camillus 50 yards down the fairway. It was recorded at 75 mph at the airport. My partner a 75 year old featherweight was stood up and pushed backwards.

Yes, Ch-eye lie is the way to go. Quite some time ago I stopped correcting people that don't live around here. When talking to someone on the phone from California or wherever, they say "so you live in "chilly"? I just say "yes, I do"...
