I received an email from the Washington Post's Capitol Deal program offering $15 tickets to the Maryland game. I suspect offering $15 tickets means that it will be half empty so you can probably buy these tickets and sit with the Syracuse crew despite them being for specific sections.

VALID 11/9/13 ONLY • Voucher valid for one (1) admission to UMD vs. Syracuse football game on November 9, 2013 (time TBD) with seating in sections 311-312. (Value: $30, pre-paid voucher cost: $15) • Clicking the "CLICK HERE TO BUY" will redirect you to the University of Maryland website where you will complete your order. • No cash value or cash back for unused portion. • Not valid with other offers or promotions. • No refunds or credits for unused vouchers after game date.

New to Virginia, I'm in Richmond, anyone familiar with a good way to College Park outside of driving? Would prefer not driving near DC is there is a better option?

You could park in Springfield then work the metros. Or from Richmond shoot up 301, and basically avoid DC. I think 301 is a better bet.

301 is a good option coming from Richmond -- it can be a bit slow through the areas they're building out in Southern MD (La Plata, Waldorf etc) -- there are just lots of strip malls and stop lights so just plan on it taking a little bit longer than whatever you think it is, especially on a Saturday morning.

Having married someone from that area of Maryland, I'd rather pull out my eyeballs, put them on a stick and grill them, than take that route.

I'd take 95 up, and go the Virginia side of the beltway. The new beltway hot lanes make it worth it in that direction. If you have 3 in the car, it's free, if not, you have to pay a little bit, but also have to have EZ Pass. No toll booths.

That is pretty good deal...very easy to complete. I gave me Section 311, Row U. The nice thing was only $15 per ticket and no extra fees attached.

Second that! 301 is a painful drive!

Come up 95, take the local exits lanes across the Wilson Bridge and go North on 295 through the city. Get back off on the beltway Westbound to Route 1, follow signs to College Park...

One other nice thing (that used to be an utter nightmare) is that if you miss the beltway exits, find yourself 395'ing thru the city, it now connects with 295 directly. It made no sense all those years why they didn't connect them, and you'd end up driving either thru RFK neighborhood or hanging out in SE near Penn Ave. Both lovely this time of year. Or any time.

Ha. My old stomping grounds. When I lived in Waldorf, 301 had nothing. Now it's all stores and hotels. How things can change over 30 years.

Once you left the town boomed. How am I not surprised?

Seriously, I used to always take 301 instead of 95 going to see my Mom in VA. I think it was around 10 years ago when Waldorf/LaPlata exploded making it like 15 miles on steroids of Rt 31 from Cicero to B'Ville.

Haven't used the new hot lanes yet but thought I had read you needed a special transponder noting that you're an HOV vehicle -- how does the system tell you have 3 people in a car...?

95's fine when there's no traffic (which should be a safer bet on a Saturday in the fall...summer is usually a different story given beach traffic)...however, I've spent countless hours stuck in traffic, thanks to accidents, construction and just generally too many cars, on 95, even inbetween Richmond and DC that sometimes it's safer to just avoid it...I'll usually look at Google Maps before and see how traffic looks and then decide. 301 is a decent backup option if you don't mind taking a slower route...there's of course nowhere good to stop on the VA side as you're in the middle of nowhere.

Traffic on 95 sucks to no end. And I am kind of a fan of 301. There's a point where you across 301 towards National Harbor, then you can either go 295 or Beltway. If the 95 Express lanes are inbound on Saturday and you have enough people in the car you can also do that.
