19 threes?

The number open looks from 3 BC kept getting was driving me nuts!
It seemed like Girard and Buddy kept hanging back instead of moving up on them more, and then when they'd get screened they kept going around the back of the screen leaving the guy even more wide open and neither of them seem to have the length and quickness to recover from that to disrupt the shooter.
But also, isn't one of the strengths of the zone to help avoid leaving someone wide open if one defender gets screened?
Thankfully, BC was so completely awful on offense otherwise that they only got 14 other points that were not 3's, so maybe letting them jack up 3's all night was the right strategy

Yes. 5-6 were in garbage time when second stringers were playing. 13-14 weren’t, though. During set plays, we defended the 3 okay. But JB mentioned in his post-game press conference that several of their earlier 3s were off of kick-outs following scrambles when they got offensive rebounds.

and even crazier is that the last 7 were made in the final 5 minutes of the game - after Buddy and Joe checked out (and when our superior defensive backcourt was in the game).

Don't worry, everyone is going to take a giant leap forward and the defense is going to be top-ten next season.
The freshmen and sophomores will all get better and the incoming freshmen are all going to be better than the freshmen who played this season.

Please do not take this as criticism of your post rather I just want to add that our defense has been so down this year that we have no place to go but up. I totally agree we are a young team and truly hope the incoming freshmen can quickly pick up playing the zone. Sidibe seems to be finally turning the corner. Maybe Dolezaj will add a few pounds for his senior year or better yet we could move him out front on defense (let them shoot deep threes over him) and let Buddy slide back to the 3. Getting crazy now and it isn't even wine time yet!
