1994 vs Mizzou...am I missing something?

A frequent gripe I've heard about this game is that we should have won by one in regulation because they waived off Autry's bucket that he made from his knees and have him shootva one and one instead.

So I watched that game on you tube. When AA "made" that shot, we're down three. He goes to the line. He makes the first, misses the second. Down two.

But McCorkle got the rebound on that miss! Ball goes to Autry again. He gets fouled again. Makes them both. Tie game.

So am I missing something here? If we get the and-one, we don't get the extra possession off the missed FT. Best case scenario is still a tie game. We still go to OT. The rest is history.

Momentum could have been different coming off making a shot like that.

Your point is valid, but it still would have been nice for that shot to have counted.

I was only 5 when this happened so I have No recollection of this.

But I would say that getting a rebound off a miss and getting the next 2 FT's to tie the game is as much a momentum swinger as anything.

I believe that was the game the refs waived off a 3 point shot for basket interference on Raefsnyder when replays showed he didn't touch the ball. But, that was a long time ago, so I could be misremembering.

Someone get this guy a burger!!!! Don't worry, doc. It was just winter. :)

Trunk monkey had Mizzou rattled, and in the last minute I remember Luke Jackson almost coming away with a steal on the sideline that would have given us the ball with a chance to win on the last possession in regulation.

In light of past and very recent success, maybe we should compile a youtube of trunk monkey's greatest hits.

heart breaking loss, in OT, the first possession shot clock down, some dude on Missouri hit a 40 foot three point shot. Man that was a game we almost had

This may be my fault. I was in Hawaii visiting my brother and we had already scheduled something else before we knew when the Su game was going to be played. No problem. He set the timer of a VCR he had just obtained to record it. When we got back, he hadn't set it up correctly and the tape was blank. So I never saw even clips of that game until i saw it on You-tube.

When I got back from Hawaii, people were marveling at Autry's incredible 30 points after halftime of that game and wasn't it too bad that the refs didn't count the basket he made laying on the floor. I found out that basket was in regulation and noted that it was an overtime game. I came to the conclusion that that call had cost us the game and have repeated that conclusion several times over the years. I took no consideration of what happened subsequently that did count.

Bored historian I expected more of you!

JK hopefully when I grow up I have such an extensive archive of cuse bb knowledge.

BTW while no doubt that must've been a heart breaking loss at the time (didn't get into SU hoops until the late nineties. I'm really impressed how that squad just wouldn't stop balling. Going from 12 down with like six to go to tying that game.

AA was in beast mode that second half.

This game was one in a long series of soul crushing Sweet 16 games for SU. For a long time it seemed like there was nothing that wouldn't/couldn't occur to prevent us from winning these games. I'm hoping the suplex was sort of the pinnacle of that. Even though the universe still had Wisconsin throw 14 three pointers at us in 2012, we got the win and we seem to have had much better luck since the suplex.

Forgot all about that ... the shot from his knees I totally remember. Only in college hoops. Autry was so incredible for the 'cuse. The grit that team showed was the only reason that loss was palatable.

Two years later and we're in the national championship ...

Guy was all world in that game - Big 8 Rookie of the Year or All Rookie Team? Only to never be heard from again... what happened? (Haven't looked it up).

Tore up his knee and wasn't the same player. He's coaching HS ball in St. Louis now.

As for the game, it was a few weeks after I was accepted into SU. I was born and raised in St. Louis, so it was me against the world the week leading up to the game. (Even in my own house, as my dad went to Mizzou.) No one talked trash afterwards, though, in part because we proved we could hang and in part because Mizzou characteristically lost the next game to Arizona.
