2/13/15 Last day of Winter Workouts

Everyone got bigger, better, and faster. If they went at it harder - my guess is they got that much better. That's how it works.

(Those who want to paint everything negative, will.)

And again, the question is... if we did that last year with poor results, what has changed this year that might result in better results? Every CFB team gets bigger, better, and faster. Most of the teams go at it harder and get better.

It's not about what are we doing and how are we doing it. It's about; is what we are doing going to yield different results than last year.

This has nothing to do with being negative. It's called realism. We practiced hard last year, so what makes practices this year designed in a way to yield different results. If you're telling me that's not a fair question, I guess you're not interested in winning.

First off, we're not in the IPF so who knows?

Secondly, the poor results you speak of are hard to trace back to and pin on winter work outs.

Thirdly, who cares about realism? It's freaking Feb and -19 out. I'm amped that something is happening. I get so tired of the call to be realistic - it's the offseason - hope springs eternal.

And you're being overly negative.

Overly negative? Sounds like an over exaggeration. Maybe you should read what I said exactly instead of assuming I'm trying to be negative.

You're right. Lumped you in with Mad. You were just in favor of his right to take a fairly benign event like enter workouts and be overly negative with them.

LOL.

I ask what is different this year than the past years where we've heard very much the same thing. How that's negative...well, I'm lost.

I was aggravated because the original response came across, to me, as a flame statement. If it wasn't, then I apologize for the miscommunication, if it was, I feel the same way.

This is what I know, a 6 AM workout is a 6 AM workout, that's where the similarities end with that regime. Just because you're getting guys out of bed early doesn't mean you're maximizing their and your time. I know that accountability is up. I know that guys on the team and the staff were absolutely burnt from this session. Shafer is pushing, and moreso than he has the past two years.

In terms of specific workout details, I'm sorry I don't have answers there, and never will. I do know this, the same workout can be administered in completely different ways. And, from what I know, it's alot more intense than before.

Competition is up, guys are pushing guys. There's alot being asked of staff and kids alike, and, so far the response has been good.

Thank you. That is all I was looking for.

And to beat the dead horse, we've had Internet sightings of "awesome" offseason workouts and articles like this for some time. My kingdom for any specifics to truly believe - not just blindly hoping - that things will get better.

Appreciate your input. And for future reference, my snarkiness tends to be blunt, not information seeking!

C'mon.

Your subsequent posts have shown that you are trying to judge it vs previous years, implying that things haven't changed. No one read it as an honest request for more info.

We had three wins last year and more broken down players than ever.

We got pumped a year ago by reports of Hunt running the stairs at 5:15am. Great. I was just mighty curious to see or hear anything that was differentiated this go arduous versus past reasons to be optimistic.

Looking for reasons to be truly optimistic is not the same as being negative. Perhaps I need to brush up on my English or something...

It would be kind of cool and refreshing to see just one article that indicated the team was noticeably fatter and slower than the previous season and looked to be working a lot less than in the past.

The closest we came was the infamous Jameel Dumas article where he bragged about putting on a lot of weight during the off season. That was pretty legendary...

I can pretty much assure you that I'll show up to the first game fatter and slower than last year.

That's fair, I guess. I get truly optimistic every offseason no matter what... Maybe it's a character flaw.

All I know is that we were 3-9 last year. We better be going hard in Winter conditioning. Then again I don't know what the story is here? It would be a story if they weren't going at it hard. I'm definitely not getting excited over a Winter workout.

Agreed, it's standard operating procedure for winning and losing programs, the proof is in the win column
