2/24/2015 Day two Spring Practice

I just want the best 5 guys on the line that we can put out there.

If McGloster is one of them, so be it, but I'm not sure if that's because him and Ward are both playing at a high level and he's winning out, or because there is a lack of a better option. I really hope it's the former, because we need quality depth on the line regardless of who starts this year. My hope is that Kendall Moore and Ward are both playing at a high level and if they don't start give us legit 2 deep depth that can play and play at a high level if needed.

Sucks about Coleman. He seemed to really be moving in the right direction. Not surprising though that we had some attrition, on the recruiting board we were talking about it with how the numbers are going to play out and it's one of those things that happens every year. If Slayton is that big then maybe this is his opportunity to be the breakout player this year.

Wonder who the walkons are...if preferred or just from the student body.

Hunt said a few times that he's more of a student of the game, having gotten the coaches' perspective during games and watched extra film.

Hunt: “One thing I want to answer is, ‘Is he a pocket quarterback?’ That’s one thing I want to get answered."

  2. @Stephen_Bailey1 I would have preferred Isaiah Johnson permanently moving inside. But Slayton may be better there.

  2. .@rmhanlon @Imindahudl Daoust said 285 and "strong as an ox"

If Slayton is already up to 285lbs then he pretty much has to play DT, which is a good thing. We are set at DE, but need some help with the interior. Hopefully Slayton will be able to use his DE speed, with his DT size. He has a huge frame, i'm sure he could put on another 20lbs, which makes him perfect size for a college DT.

Lester said the goal is to install about 50% of the offense this spring, roughly 15-20 plays with variances.

@Stephen_Bailey1 love that we'll be going with a small playbook with wrinkles. More effective IMO than a ton of different plays

Stephen Bailey ‏@Stephen_Bailey1 11m11 minutes ago
@BJNorowski Definitely makes sense with a new system. Hunt thinks one key will be creating mismatches with Broyld, which plays off wrinkles.

Ben ‏@BJNorowski 5m5 minutes ago
@Stephen_Bailey1 one of my biggest problems with GMC's offense was the amount of plays. Same with Hackett's, but he simplified & it worked.

Stephen Bailey ‏@Stephen_Bailey1 2m2 minutes ago
@BJNorowski Yeah, I wouldn't expect that from Lester. Wants a "QB-friendly" offense with flexible personnel groupings.

Thank you Bnoro.

Re: Small playbook. In 2012 we basically ran the same running play all year long and was basically unstoppable.

Is Estime running with the 1st team at WR? Is it possible we run out Estime and Ish at WR with Broyld in the H-back?

The 1's right now appear to be:

Foy T
Palmer G
Trudo C
Robinson G
McGloster T
Hunt QB
Dunkelberger TE
Broyld HB
Ishmael WR

OPEN – RB
OPEN - WR

Simplicity is the best thing a college offense can do. Do 5-10 plays really really well, with different formations and players those plays become 50. Less chance of -ups
The packers under Vince L used to run about two dozen plays but ran them to perfection

McGloster looks the part. The kid is 6-7 looks really lean all muscle not much fat on him actually looks quick which is key for an OT. I hope he holds onto the job good early surprise

Parris is probably the tight end

From culling the info, Ashton and Dunk have run with the ones on both days. With Ashton running as the HBack, that means Dunk is at TE.
interesting - both will inevitably see the field

I see, but will see have a starting "slot" guy? Or will we roll multiple tight ends...

I'd guess both. 2 TE set with Parris and Dunk or 1 of them + 1 H Back (Erv, Ash, Ben) in the slot.
