Sounds good. I never got those people who thing the regular season is killed by a post seasons playoff. Most regular season games will ahve no impact on who is a playoff or who gets to be thew home team. The regular season is all about playing traditional rivals and just seeing how many games you can win, if you can get better, etc. The college basketball regular season isn't "ruined" by the NCAA tournament. If anything, the more teams you have in the post season, the more regular season games matter.
I totally agree regular season basketball is not ruined for me by the Tourney but in my travels and the places I have lived over the years there is a large contingent of America that doesn't follow college basketball At all until March 6th, so not even the Conf. Tourneys. Football has too much invested in the cashflow of its product to take a chance on washing out the casual fan in the regular season with a 16 team tourney. I would love it ... America at large and Neilson Ratings maybe not so much. I say go with 8 to keep everyone happy and make EVERY game count.
8 team playoff 5 auto-bids, 3 at-larges play the first game on campuses. Use the BCS bowls for the semi-finals and finals. Keep the bowls for the rest of the losers because that is the NCAA cartel works to take care of 501(c)(3)s.
This year it would have been
8 seed Missouri At-Large @ 1 seed Florida State ACC Champ
5 seed Stanford Pac-12 Champ @ 4 seed Michigan State B1G Champ
7 seed Ohio State At-Large @ 2 seed Auburn SEC Champ
6 seed Baylor Big XII champ @ 3 seed Alabama At-Large
Orange Bowl hosts winners of the first games.
Sugar Bowl hosts winners of the second games
National Championship game at the Rose Bowl
Year 2 use the Fiesta, Chick-Fil-A, Cotton Bowls.
Great job putting it together Alsacs, I'd nix the Chick-fil-A but thats me. I would watch the hell out of that tourney it would be amazing especially with the intrigue of the first round home games which, by the way, would sell out in an instant. (NCAA would have to provide the Absolute best in snow removal in between each quarter and every tv timeout, think Buffalo Bills playing surface on a snowy day not Philadelphia Eagles.) You want that home game in your sunny warm weather state well then Just Win Baby.
I would add that the losers of the second round games would play in the Fiesta and or Cotton or some other BCS this year with the #9 & 10 teams used as BCS bowlers for intriguing matchups. This year that would add BCS #9 South Carolina and BCS #10 Oregon (Sweet) to the bowl matchups. After the teams that make the championship are decided announce the BCS bowls and everyone would get a week to prepare for whoever their opponent is to keep the playing field level.
I think doing this would likely give us better championship games also because it is less likely that either team is going to come out flat by eliminating the 40+ day layoff from the conf. championships.
