This we know:
  • 09/01 - Northwestern
  • 09/08 - USC (at E. Rutherford, NJ)
  • 09/22 - at Minnesota
Anyone know how filling the other two spots is going?

I was looking at non-BCS teams that need games at it doesn't look good:

*Haven't scheduled game with FCS team yet
**Have 12 games scheduled. They are allowed to schedule 13.

Alabama-Birmingham*
Boise State*'**
Florida Atlantic*
Hawaii**
Houston*
Louisiana-Lafayette*
Middle Tennessee State*
Nevada
North Texas
New Mexico State*
Southern Mississippi*
Texas-El Paso*
Texas-San Antonio

Also note Tulane is already full, so we can't get the return game from them in 2012. I'm predicting multiple FCS teams.

That's all according to fbschedules.com

They can still move forward on the other two games.

I'd love to play a Case-Keenum less Houston team, if we win that one it looks good even though Houston will most likely suck next year.

I'd like to see us play Boise to be honest. I'm sick of seeing 1-AA's and cupcakes. I think the more talent our players go up against the better they will get, so why not put in tough games if we're trying to develop our talent? Who knows, maybe the Cuse even pulls one out of no where

I'd take Boise if they play in the Dome. If we go play on the Blue Turf we're going to get laughed off the field.

Keep in mind all of those schools marked with one asterisk haven't scheduled an FCS team. So SU would have to convince any of those schools to give up a home game to play on the road at SU. And SU can't pay anywhere near as high a guarantee that schools with big stadias and good TV contracts can pay.

I think the best option is to play a home-and-home with Florida Atlantic, play there this year and then try to get a guarantee game with Nevada, North Texas or UTSA. But are people going to freak out over only having five games in the Dome? We already know they don't like FCS games, but I don't see how SU has six Dome games without playing multiple FCS teams.

That makes sense to me Zip. The decision to schedule USC had good and bad ramifications.

I like the UTSA or UNT options as I could drive to either one :)

Once WVU leaves, our 9-game conference schedule in the ACC is going to help.

I'm not even sure UTSA wants to play 12 games this year...they are only in year 2. They played 10 games last year. They rcvd a waiver to play a year early in the WAC due all the conference realignment. If they are willing I would offer up a 2 for 1 and see if they take it. Playing them in SA this year might actually be a huge draw for them.

The real question were this to happen is whether or not your neighbors would call the police during the pre-game at your house ;)

Boise in the Dome or Houston wouldn't be bad. Not a whole lot to choose from though.

Actually I'm in a condo now and most of the neighbors would feel hurt if I didn't invite them to the pregame pool party/tailgate. Mr. SUFBSchedulingGuy make this happen for Columbus Day Weekend.

Texas road trip. BBQ. Mmmmm. I am in.

Do they play their home games at the Alamodome or did they build a small on campus stadium ?

UNT built a new on campus stadium in Denton which is nice. Plenty of parking for tailgating.

They play in the Alamo Dome...they had 56k (actual probably closer to 45-47k) for their inaugural game last year. I attended their last home game (rcvd a freebie) and they had 34k (22-24k actual) for (NAIA school transitioning to DivII) Minot State, ND. The Dome is juxtaposed between the Paseo del Rio (RiverWalk) and Sunset Station makes this place as attractive as Tulane for a 3 day weekend FB trip. (Great Fall weather, great food, big city for airline travel, city that caters to tourists and reasonable hotel rates). UTSA outdrew USF comparing first year seasons by a wide margin. USF formerly held the record for most attendance in the first year.

The problem with UNT is it is in Denton and not Dallas (SMU) or Ft Worth (TCU). Great little stadium like Akron's but UTSA would be better for the visiting fan. Most fans who fly in would be forced to rent cars where that is isn't necessary for UTSA and Tulane.

Ultimately UTSA is looking to build an on campus stadium 13 miles away in their NW SA suburban campus...I like it downtown though.

Have been in the Alamodome and agree it is a great locale and woud be a very nice site for a three day weekend.

As for UNT, agree that you wouldn't want to stay in Denton but you can stay in Far North Dallas/Addison instead of downtown Big D and it is an easy 35 min. drive there. Lots of bars and hotels in this area.

Scratch Nevada off the list: Linky

Whoever does scheduling for SU FB needs to get their ass moving.

Bring Florida Atlantic and a D1AA to the Dome.

Is TM on the phone yet with the SU scheduling department? C'mon Mark, make it happen. I will need 6-8 tickets...

Seriously, San Antonio for a 3 day weekend is a great getaway. Throw in a SU football game and it's even better.
