2012 Preseason No.1

The next guard we bring in needs to be a tough "Big East" guard... need a guy with the Waiters toughness that gets the crowd going and loves makng a big play... Triche, MCW and Cooney aren't that type... An El Amin type, Fields/Krauser, Kemba, Flynn etc etc

Triche can become that, but how can you POSSIBLY say that about MCW and Cooney? MCW hasn't played enough to make that assessment and Cooney hasn't played at all. What on earth leads you to believe that neither of them has toughness, can get the crowd going, and loves making big plays? That's a ridiculous claim, for which I feel ridicule is appropriate, hence my use of the word ridiculous.

How dare you sir.

It's more of a personality thing you either have or don't... nothing against Triche or MCW... Not saying that makes you a better player at all... think we could benefit from that type of a player in addition to what we have

Again, how do you know MCW doesn't have it? This is a kid who regularly put up 40 in AAU and HS games. How on earth can you possibly know anything about him based on his small sample size as a collegian?

The answer is, you can't.

I shouldn't have said toughness or wanting to take a big shot... it's more of a "swag" or demeanor I guess you can say that the guys I listed have/had that I'd love to see in the next guard recruit

I understand what you're saying, but I really don't know how you can possibly say MCW doesn't have that considering how little we have seen of him. He understands his limited role right now, but we have no clue what he is capable of at this point. I absolutely believe he has it in him to have some swag and take and hit big shots.

Four guards next year, Waiters, Triche, Carter-Williams and Cooney. Even if Waiters leaves, we have three very good guards. Four is probably too many, and we only have four playing this year because one of them is an AA recruit. Plus, Jones will be a fifth year senior who was a top50 recruit coming out of high school. If he is our deep depth, I think we will be ok. Half our forwards could play shooting guard in a pinch at any rate.

If we have everybody but Jardine back and add Cooney, Coleman and Grant, we have every reason to expect number one votes in both polls, regardless of how this current season ends. Our eleventh man off the bench would be a top50 recruit.

Id be shocked if fab is gone, people are going crazy about him cause its been such a big improvement from last year, but hes still not that good. He needs at least 1 more year.

Totally agree with you. Then, I heard from a very interesting source that the staff is planting a seed in his head that he could be ready for the NBA after this season. Too many bigs...and too many prospects in the pipeline. You cant teach 7 feet and he has hardly played organized ball. He is limited by NCAA requirements in terms of how many hours per week he can work with the staff; he needs more resources...and fast...because he isnt a young soph whatsoever.

Dion and Fab do not leave. They will leave next year. Dion gets to run the team. Fab needs more offense ... and that comes from pundits, sportscasters, sports announcers, and personal observation. Fab gets offensive skills and he's a high lottery pick. Grant does have more 4 skills but can also be turned to a 3. Watched him on several videos and on TV. Kid is really good ... see him as a 3. NO WAY IN HELL IS JB GOING TO HAVE DC2 AS THE 10TH MAN... or even 8th man. That will not cut it. To me BK (once called BMK) still showing bad hands underneath. I do see him actually moving down the rotation behind DC2. RAK will come back next year with monster skills. He can block; he can rebound. What he needs is to be more aggressive on offense. JS is not gonna start... sorry JS lovers. He has improved and has, to a degree, become more than a one-dimensional player. But we haven't hit the BE yet and I see his time diminishing unless we need a Big for some reason or other. Mook is not gonna leave either ... where would he go? He will finish his degree and go to New Zealand, or Asia, or Europe. MCW still plays an important role but also needs to develop better offensive skills ... seems afraid to shoot the ball and makes some dumb decisions on passing at times. He is gonna be a good one tho and is heir apparent to Scoop and Dion. White Hot is also going to be good ... definitely a Rautins type ... heard that, in practice, he is dynamite on defense. With the added year of practice he is going to be good as well. In summary: I believe we have a really, really good team next year and another very deep bench.
Next year our problem will be, as usual, outside shooting (I know they are great shooters this year!) But we lose Scoop and KJo ... double figure scorers when good Scoop is on the floor. CJ does not yet have a consistent outside shot ... a loss there. Dion better shooter than Scoop ... a gain there but one we already have this year. MCW not nearly the shooter that Dion is coming off the bench ... a loss there. Triche needs to improve and be more aggressive on his outside shot. Cooney, I hear, can shoot the eyes out of a dime ... picks up a lotta pt early on and rotates in for Triche ... a gain there if his defense is up to snuff. Underneath the basket we will be great ... a big gain there.

1: Dion, MCW
2: Triche, Cooney (1&2 are obviously interchangeble)
3: CJ, Grant
4: RAK, JS
5: Fab, DC2, BMK

Does that mean they think were getting Noel or Anya? DC2/Xmas could be as dominating a downlow duo weve ever had here and Keita is a very solid backup especially as a junior for next year so as much as it would suck to not have Fab for when he could absolutely own teams we will be fine. As far as Waiters goes, I think if he stays for next year he could go top 5 in the draft, I really believe he would blow up that much. An under 6' Flynn went that high and Waiters is taller, bigger, and stronger than Flynn with the same skillset.

Coleman's just not mobile enough to be a serious consideration at the 4. He'd have to lose 30 pounds.
DC2 either loses the weight this summer or he doesn't play in 2012-13. It's amazing that none of his handlers are getting on him about the importance of conditioning and a proper diet.

I wonder to what extent JB will actually encourage Melo and possibly Waiters to go pro at the end of this season, assuming the pros have interest, to make way for the younger guys. He also doesnt seem to expect to have Christmas around very long, one more year at most
