Louisville already has pretty good recruiting class for 2014. Here is my hope for 2014:

1. Chris McCullough
2. Isaiah Whitehead
3. Ja'Quan Newton

Or:
1. Chris McCullough
2. Isaiah Whitehead
3. Kaleb Joseph

I am concerned about McCullough backing out. He may already have a HS diploma but I have not heard anything about his summer classes.

I really hope the Orange get Whitehead. Whitehead says he no longer interested in Louisville because they got a commit from JaQuan Lyle. Whitehead says he has it down to 3 schools: Arizona, UCLA, and SU. He's going to visit SU again so I do not think Whitehead is a lock just yet.

Next is Newton versus Joseph. Assuming McCullough and Whitehead sign LOI, who would take next, Newton or Joseph.

btw, either of those two lists would be very successful recruiting class in my opinion. Here's what I think would be a disaster:

1. Chris McCullough
2. Goodluck Okonoboh

I have nothing against Okonoboh but I do not think Christmas or Coleman are going anywhere anytime soon.

btw, here's a really nice web page on Orange scholarship status:

Why on earth would you or anyone else be concerned about McCullough backing out? There has not been any indication as far as I've seen that it's even a possibility at this point in time.

I would assume its because he has been orange for so long, the worry is the kid could change his mind, particularly with the random comment about KU followers. I think it's nonsense, but I guess i can see the fear for people

Maybe he took a jab at Kansas. After all, we did beat them in the National Championship game. Either way, not sweating it.

Yeah, but it wasn't a random comment really. He was in Kansas playing in a tournament. He was referring to general people from Kansas, not Jayhawk supporters. People read way too much into stuff like that.

Depends on how tuned in you are, how random it felt.

I agree kids do stuff because they want the attention. And people read way to much into stuff like that.

He made a statement last December that he could finish classes over the summer and reclassify as a 2013 recruit. And then several stories have commented he is not going to do that. But he has not said anything about this since December.

Syracuse commit Chris McCullough is trying to reclassify to 2013
Terrence Payne Dec 15, 2012, 7:55 PM EDT

The reclassification fad may continue in the next few months. In less than a year, the likes of Nerlens Noel, Wayne Selden, Noah Vonleh, Andrew Wiggins, and Karl Towns have all moved up a class.
Chris McCullough (Brewster Academy/Bronx, NY) is considered by as a top-10 player in the Class of 2014. The 6-foot-10 power forward has already committed to Syracuse and no longer wants to wait. McCullough confirmed on Saturday evening that he intends on reclassifying to the Class of 2013 to play for the Orange next fall.
“The chances are it could happen,” said McCullough following a loss to Northfield Mount Hermon (Mass.) on Saturday. “I’d say about 70 percent.”
To become eligible, McCullough will need to complete 16 core courses in order to receive initial eligibility by the NCAA. McCullough stated that by the end of the school year he would have completed 13 of those core classes and would have to make up the other three in the summer time. He went on to say that he meets with Syracuse on Thursday to discuss his options.

It's probably safe to assume McCullough is a solid to sign LOI. I was more interested in people's thoughts about Whitehead, Newton, and Joseph. These guys add offers all the time. Whitehead recently has been moving up in the rankings. I sure hope the Orange get Whitehead.

Several articles came out several months back saying he was not going to reclassify, because he basically couldn't. Besides, if he had reclassified he'd still be a Syracuse commit, we'd just be getting him a year early.

Yeah, you are right that he will most likely not reclassify.

Exactly.
Don't follow this stuff like some others here, but nowhere have I read that McCullough is wavering.
He wears SU socks on the court, for pete's sake!!!!!couchburn

McCullough, Whitehead and Joesph would be a fantastic class. It would put SU in position to make a serious run for a NC. Whitehead's ability to score off the bounce or from outside at the 2G is exactly what the team needs at this time...a perfect match. Hope he sees it.

Yeah, someone mentioned it before, but realistically... we don't seem to need anything from the 2o14 class. Getting an elite guy like McCullough is awesome. Bringing in some of these other quality guards or another quality big is just an embarrassment of riches.

Embarrass me please! Actually I'd like to see a guard along with McCullough. I'm not real particular to any one specifically but another ballhandler would help complete this team.

A couple of responses:
1. I think McCullough is solid. I thought the KU stuff was just a joke, referring to the lack of interest he would have at KU now that he has committed to SU. He took it down when people seemed confused.

2. The top priority IMO is KJ2. He would be insurance and heir apparent to Ennis at pg. I personally prefer him over Newton.

3. The fit with Whitehead is a lot messier. He seems to come with big expectations and seems a more difficult fit chemistry wise. There would be a lot of more experienced sg's here - MG, Cooney, Buss, and even BJ. While it seems like we could use the offense, this guy seems to be one of those volume shooters. SU looks poised to have one of the top front courts in America in '14-'15 (espn had us at #2 this coming year and we look to be even better in '14) and would want someone that could recognize their role. I like the talent but have a hard time seeing him displaying the maturity it would take to accept a role that doesn't cast him as the star right out of the gate. The fit and role seem like a problem.

If he backs out now he has to deal with Marsh and CuseTroop hopped up on PBR's and Hardnosed rhetoric. No wants to live life looking over their shoulder for that. ;)

I agree. From the highlight videos, Joseph seems like a better defender, ball handler, and jump-shooter. Newton is good at driving to the basket and finishing. But we need another good point guard. I read Whitehead is talking package deal with Newton. But I think Joseph would be a better get based on our needs. Here's my hope:

1. McCullough
2. Whitehead
3. Joseph

Or, if Whitehead heads somewhere else, then this would be my preferred pick:

1. McCullough
2. Joseph

This will allow us an open spot in the spring in case any of the one-and-doners doesn't have a home.

I think we get either Whitehead or Joseph. From what I've heard, a Whitehead commit almost certainly leads to Joseph going elsewhere. Unfortunate.

McCullough is in
Joseph is Next
Whitehead .. . . . we're in great shape but who knows Could see us going for another guard if he goes elsewhere.
Goodluck we seem to be in great shape with as well

You may have a point here about it being crowded at SG. But our team really needs a consistent SG. Maybe this, again, is the preferred 2014 class:

1. McCullough
2. Joseph - PG

For a team that is supposedly crowded at SG (shooting guard) we certainly have a lot of questions about the teams biggest weakness being actually shooting! I agree we lots of potential options there.

Fortunately that's not true.

I mostly agree, but I think that SU is still thin at the PG position. I would feel better if we had more players that can bring the ball up the court and distribute. I am loving everything that I am seeing with Ennis, but I don't feel like I know enough about Patterson and Gbinje's ability to handle the ball in a college game. If they can play PG, then SU can afford to be picky. Hopefully we'll be able to add Joseph to the mix.

Hope you're right. I have some friends in the NE area betting me dinner at Gotham Bar and Grill that he ends up at Providence. Should I take it?
