Cross Country 2016 Schedule

It will be a familiar road for the defending NCAA Champions this season, when seven of the the Syracuse cross country teams eight 2016 meets will be repeat events from last season, head coach Chris Fox announced.

The Orange men return a trio of All-Americans from last year's history-making team that claimed its first national title since 1951 and went undefeated in meets its championship roster competed in. The women are coming off of a historic season as well after recording the second highest finish in program history at nationals and look to continue their success into the upcoming season.

The Orange's first test will be one of its closest to home, kicking off the 2016 season at the Harry Lang Invitational at Colgate on Sept. 3.

A week later, the Orange will head back to State College, Pa. for the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational. The men's team took second each of the last-two seasons at the event with an abbreviated roster, but Colin Bennie kick started his All-America season at the event last season, winning the individual title and earning both national and ACC performer of the week accolades. Orange graduate Margo Malone was the top finisher on the women's side at the meet last season for SU, something that would happen in all-six of her meets.

After a one-week layoff, Syracuse will take on its new event to the schedule, heading to ACC rival Virginia for the Panorama Farms Invitational on Sept. 23, before the men's team looks for its third-straight title at the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational on Oct. 14.

The Wisconsin Adidas Invite is one of the largest meets in the nation, with 'Cuse taking back-to-back titles in 2014 and 2015. Rising junior Justyn Knight finished second overall for SU at the event last year to lead the way.

After Wisconsin, Syracuse will stay close to home for its final pre-championship tune up at the John Reif Memorial at Cornell on Oct. 21. Graduate Juris Silenieks and rising junior Mary Malone won the individual races at the event last season.

The 2015 ACC Championships concluded with a remarkable finish on the men's side where they scored 46 points which led them to a first place finish. The 2016 ACC Championships with be held in Raleigh, NC on Friday, Oct. 28 where the men look to defend its title. The women placed fourth in the 2015 season at this event led by Margo Malone as she crossed the line in third.

On Nov. 11, the NCAA Northeast Regionals will be taking place in Bronx, NY. 'Cuse had an outstanding performance at the event last season. Knight crossed the line in first, leading the men to an overall first-place finish where the team scored 29 points. The women recorded a total of 92 points landing them with a second-place finish.

Terre Haute, Ind. will be the site of the 2016 NCAA Championship meet, where 'Cuse will embark on its title defense. The course is also the site of the 2014 championship meet, where the Orange ended a 57-year drought with no top-five finishes just two seasons ago.
