Knutson Clinches All-America Status as Orange Tournament Run Ends - Cuse
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Orange's postseason run came to an end on Friday as doubles pair of junior
Gabriela Knutson and sophomore
Miranda Ramirez fell, 4-6, 7-5, 8-10 to the duo from Oklahoma State in the round of 16 in the NCAA Doubles Championship.
Knutson also faced defeat in the round of 16 in Singles Championships, coming up short 4-6, 5-7 to Mayar Sherif Ahmed from Pepperdine. The junior kept the match close, tying each set at four, but was just edged in each frame.
Later in the afternoon, Knutson and Ramirez squared-off against Vladica Babic and Sofia Blanco in the round of 16. After dropping set one, 4-6, the Orange pair rallied to take a 7-5 victory and force a tiebreak. Knutson and Ramirez opened the tiebreak on a 5-1 tear but the Cowgirls stormed back to eventually take a 10-8 victory.
By reaching the round of 16 in the Singles Championship, Knutson clinched All-America status, the first Orange to do so since 1995 when Erica O'Neill represented Syracuse on the national stage. Knutson finished the season with a 21-4 record in dual action and has amassed 148 career wins in her three years with the Orange.
