It's pretty eye-opening that for two consecutive years, the coaching staff hasn't landed any of the primary targets they focused on in either the class of 2022 or the class of 2023.

In 2022, the staff swung for the fences, and was involved with numerous highly rated prospects -- Dior, Westry, Cruz, Lands, Filipowski, and Clingan. And while I'm bully on the class we did eventually land, we missed out on every single one of the guys we initially targeted. Granted, some of that was outside of our span of control -- example: Dior being such a flake, Westry chasing $$$, etc. And down the road we might look through the historical lens at guys we did land, like Brown / Carey, and think that we did pretty damn well because they are big time contributors. But we essentially went o-fer with our main targets.

The class of 2023 was always going to be smaller, since we brought in seven [7!!!] new faces this past off-season, but again our primary focus was on Estrella and Ducharme, and with JP's announcement for Tennessee, we've missed out on both of those guys, as well.

Remains to be seen how we'll rebound with the '23 class -- but on the surface, we burned a lot of time, effort, and resources on recruits that we weren't able to reel in over the last two years.

And for the record, I'm a huge fan of the class of '22. I think Copeland, Brown, and Carey end up far outshooting their rankings, and Mintz / Taylor / Bunch have lots of potential, with Mintz possibly being our next NBA prospect.

But looking at the macro phenomenon in 2022 / 2023 is sobering.

I mean it’s painfully obvious our recruiting is not going to get any better until JB leaves…once he leaves and we have a competent recruiting assistant, we aren’t going to land many plan A, big time prospects like we used too.

How about something good. We may get very lucky. How about if we get a guy
that is better than JP? Anyone up for that? Stay tuned. And no, at this time, I can't say anymore.

This kid played JP twice and ate him up. The type of kid we would love to have and haven't had. I really want him and think we have an excellent shot.
Mods, please escort this man out. It was my understanding positive, informed takes were not only discouraged but illegal.

I can find similar threads on here going back to 2015

I don't think that's really true -- given the subject of the OP, which wasn't bemoaning the state of recruiting.

Would love it.

It means we rebounded well.

Why are we struggling so much to make the initial shot though?

(I know the reason, that's just the big question RF was posting about)

I don’t know who you’re talking about but it could be Fielder. He outplayed JP one game. Not sure about eating him up.

We rebounded great with Mintz. This would be in that league. The kid is surging
right now. Let's lock him up before the other vampires wake up.

2 games. And yes it is Fielder.
I know he took an official to USC and has one scheduled for Providence in Sept. Not sure about any other visits.

Well, I suppose I could have been lied to but I doubt it.

More likely that I only knew of the one and easily could have been two.
