The Mariners traded Jay Bruce for minor league third baseman Jake Scheiner, who is still in the minors. They got $20 million from the Mariners in the deal and didn't have to pay Bruce the $28 million Seattle had to pay Bruce for the two years he was with them. You can apply that to the cost of Cano's salary.

Anthony Swarzak was traded for pitchers Jesse Biddle and Arodys Viscaino. Biddle pitched 11 innings for Seatle and gave up 12 earned runs. Viscaino was stuck in the minors and thus didn't play at all in 2020, then became a free agent and signed...wait for it...with the Mets. He played in Syracuse last year but has since been released.

Gerson Bautista was released by the Mariners, so they got nothing for him.

The point about the Justin Dunn trade to the Reds remains: they traded him for [URL='https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eugenio_Su%C3%A1rez']Eugenio Suárez[/URL] and [URL='https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesse_Winker']Jesse Winker[/URL], both very substantial players. But could the Mets have forseen the Red's housecleaning  and that such players could be obtained for Dunn?
