Was thinking the payroll was why we didn't go after Robertson.  I know the Mets are really close to the big salary cap limit (the Cohen level).

Just checked.  Robertson is making $3.5 million.  Ruf was making $3 million.  JD Davis was making $2.75 million.

Ruf is hitting .206 for the Mets with 0 HRs.  JD Davis is hitting .278 with 4 HRs for the Giants.  JD is 29.  Ruf is 36.  And we included 2 good prospects to sweeten the deal further.  Arggggh!

We need someone other than Lugo, Ottovino and Diaz to be a reliable reliever.  Rodriguez, Givens, and the many others who have got a shot have not got it done.

Heck, Lugo has been pretty suspect too.

Carrasco is supposed to rejoin the rotation next week.  That frees Peterson to become a reliever.  Megill and Drew Smith are supposed to be pretty close.  Maybe Hunter can help.

The thing I don't understand is why Trevor Williams has been largely limited to spot starts and long relief.  Would like to see him take over pitching to finish off the 6th and maybe get through to the 8th.  I have a lot more confidence in him than  Rodriguez or Givens.  I guess Buck wants him in reserve in case a starter blows up.  But we are going to lose more close games in the sixth needing reliable relief then than needing a long reliever on the rate times our starters can knocked out early.

Hope Jake can get through 7 or 8 tonight.
