2022 Yankees Season

I know batting average isn't the stat it used to be, but...

-Approaching under 200 career average
-This year nearly last in league in average, and bottom 20 in OPS
He is having a disastrous year by any measure.

The high points of his career have been short-lived. Last year was his best season in terms of WAR. That was completely fueled by the first half in Texas. He was on-pace for a fantastic season before the summer. As we all know, he was not particularly good once getting to New York.

I do not know what to make of him. He is a good fielder, baserunner, and has demonstrated a high offensive ceiling. I don't know what went wrong or if it is fixable. His current level of performance will not keep him on major league rosters for very long.

I am browsing team stats while ignoring my zoom call.

The Yankees are top 5 in most offensive categories. One exception is batting average. They are currently 15th and are exactly the league average of .242. One reason to expect this to improve is that the team's Batting Average on Balls in Play (BABIP) is well-below average (27th) at .270 (league average is .288). BABIP tends be pretty random (i.e., not a special skill that a team possesses). One could expect the team's BABIP to move towards league average, which will boost the team's overall batting average.

The team is close to league average in strike out percentage (13th lowest) at 22.0. League average is 22.2. I do not expect much movement there.

Agreed, I want him to succeed and am willing to use the more advanced metrics to give a fair evaluation. But the case to keep in the lineup is dwindling by the day

Amazing we keep running Gallo out there. 1st and 3rd nobody out and he strikes out and then IKF bangs into a DP. Gallo now Down to .164.
Still on the team due to Cashman's ego.

DJ had to hold up waiting to see of Judge's ball was caught.

It was bang bang. One more step and DJ would have beaten the tag.

Not sure if this is the reason or not, but they hit into the shift about 99.9% of the time.
