2024-25 NBA Season

Come and listen to my story
'Bout a man named Luka
A rich hoop career,
Always kept his tummy fed.
And then one day He was nibblin' on some food,
And up came the sound of some troublin’ news.
Foiled he is! Mavs fold, Texas flee.
Well the first thing you know
Ol' Luka left his chair,
Kinfolk said "Luka what has happened there"?
Said "California's ain’t the place you outta be".
But they loaded up the truck
And they moved to Beverly.
Tax bills that is, land of fools, movie stars.
Well now it's time to say
Goodby to Luka and all his kin,
They would like to thank
You fans for kindly droppin' in.
You're all invited back again his new locality
To have a heapin' helpin' of Luka’s reality.
Injuries that is, sitting a spell, taking his shoes off.
Y'all come back now, y'hear?

The team of the year so far is Detroit without question. They went 14-68 last season and for a while there was a chance they could end up with the worst record in league history. One year later they’re a solid 25-24.

This dude is a gambling/analytics guy. Worked for the Mavs. Made millions.

The only other thing I'll add to this is Dennis Lindsey was with the Mavs last year and is a great basketball mind.

He left to work for the Pistons this season. Do with that what you will.

Seems like the kings crushed it ? Slightly crappier version of Fox and a bunch of picks ?
Fanbase is upset that Kings didn't get the Spurs 2025 Hawks pick but I'm not too disappointed. The local Sacramento media has kind of lost the plot on this one saying the front office blew it. I get that the Kings could have put a better team around Fox to potentially get him to stay but the Kings lost all leverage when he had Rich Paul say "trade me and by the way, I'm only re-signing with the Spurs." Fox screwed the Kings and the fact that Klutch once again has even the local Kings media blaming the front office is pretty frustrating. Side note, I've responded to some of your Jalen Green posts in the past... my dream was that Fox demanded a trade back "home" to Houston and we could get Jalen Green back home in the Central Valley (or maybe Jabari Smith Jr?) but in the end, Fox decided to go back to his wife's home in San Antonio.

I wouldn't really say Fox and LaVine are super similar, but I do think it's a decent trade after Fox requested a trade. LaVine is overpaid, and that really killed his trade value, but he's still a good player and I think he's shown a level of effort on defense this season that he generally hasn't shown in the past. Very curious to see what sorts of lineups they run out there now though; they don't really have anyone that even approximates a point guard. Sacramento is very much in risk of becoming a treadmill team right now though where they're not good enough to be a serious threat in the playoffs but not bad enough to get the high draft picks that help get them over the hump.

Beyond that, as a non-Kings fan that merely likes tuning into their games here and there, I am a little bummed to see Fox go. He's definitely a flawed player and probably not good enough to lead a contender, but he's one of the most fun players to watch in the league IMO.

I'm not really going to judge the Bulls' side of this until the dust settles more. I gotta imagine they're planning to make other moves to strip this thing down more, but getting their own pick back is obviously very good for them and while I'm skeptical he's a long-term building block, Tre Jones is an alright player and still young. His 3 point shooting makes him hard to build a playoff lineup around, but he's generally been a positive contributor when he's on the court.

Kings are really Kangsing this season.

You can't help who you truly are.

There is also a non zero chance the Adelsons are mirroring the plot of Major League to crash out the Mavs and move the team to Vegas.
I heard that one too. Something about they'd move the existing Mavs to Vegas and then Dallas would get one of the expansion teams, with Seattle getting the other one.

I want to be careful not to tread into politics...

But I believe the Adelsons are having some issues having what they need passed thru the Texas legislature for their casino/entertainment thing for Dallas.

There is a theory that they can bomb out the Mavs and use them as leverage to to get that passed or take them to Vegas.

Now, I don't want to give oxygen to what may be an insane conspiracy theory, but I also wouldn't put the reality of that at zero.

Pretty infuriating if that works out. Alienate a great fanbase, tank the team, then get rewarded with a coveted expansion spot in the hometown of the ownership... and this is at a grander scale than what John Fisher has done with the Athletics in baseball: Put out a terrible product, erode fan support, then get rewarded with a cash cow casino/baseball stadium in the coveted Vegas market. But with the Mavs, you're tanking out a championship level team to make your move. Gross.

These are great conspiracy theories. remind me of the Jordan being given a double secret probation ban and then plays baseball. I believe the latter though. It’s the only thing that makes sense. I don’t recall Jordan talking about this love of baseball he had until AFTER he quit

Barkley said LeBron to the warriors makes them a legit contender. Is he on peyote?

The great thing about that theory is we’ll eventually find out.

No it was "This is a horrible trade for the Mavs it would seem, but..."

Come on.
Ok boss, I'm not doing this.

Mostly I wanted to make jokes about how Luka's fat and going to get fatter.

I want to remind everyone that the knee-jerk reaction to the Clippers letting PG walk was that the organization screwed up. Few thought the team would be competitive this year.

The Clippers knew something we didn’t. The Mavs do, too.

While Doncic is only 25 (almost 26), he’s been playing professionally since he was 16. That’s a lot of wear and tear. He’s almost always dealing with some sort of injury. He didn’t just gain weight. He reported to camp at 260 pounds. Finley took a beer out of his hands after they won the WCF. We don’t know the full extent of his conditioning and habits. The Mavs do.

Whatever the reason, they did not want to pay him the supermax.
