2024-25 NHL THREAD.

if the officials actually called things Caps would have 3 majors already tonight, In college they all would have gone to review and been called.

I’m rooting for the Caps…but the officials have completely lost control of this series. Totally agree the refs swallowing their whistles benefited the Caps.

the PC after the game was interesting. Montreal trying not to get fined or suspended but still clearly wanting to say more.

I think Carolina out physicals Washington in Round 2. Also how about all four Western Series knotted up a 2-2!

I think the NHL dropped the ball by not suspending Matthew Tkachuk for a game...then the refs completely lost control of the game last night. I could see the Lightning stop playing to win if they're behind by a couple goals in the 3rd period and just start headhunting in Game 5.

I don’t care what they call and what they let go. What they suspend for and what they don’t. But what pisses people off is the wildly inconsistent manner in which they apply their “standard”.

It’s like Gumps box of chocolate. One guy gets 5 and a suspension for a hit then in another game a very similar act doesn’t even get called a penalty.

If you are up a goal, the act is a penalty . If you are down a goal or two, you can murder someone .

If you have had two power plays in a row , you will get penalized for Jay walking . If you’ve been on the PK twice in a row, you can commit genocide

Connor "Sieve" Lalime.
Hellebuyck is such a playoff bum.

Holy cow, what a goal by the Jets to keep this going into OT.

Absolutely epic win for the Jets. This is the type of series that has always gone against them. The entire country is happy for them.* Perfetti has improved over the two years he's played. Hellebuyck, erratic through the series, was not good in the first but was steadily better as it progressed. Jets were without their best forward and best defenseman, and still pulled it off. Testament to their depth. Pionk (UMinn Duluth), undrafted and undersized, was warrior nation. Samberg also. Both well over 40 minutes. Sleep in tomorrow, lads, you've earned it.

*Because now they don't have to cheer for Toronto or Edmonton :D

Great game. Heart attack kids in the last 2 minutes. Wow. I hope they go a long way, but not that far!

What a crushing loss for the Blues. I stopped paying attention to the score with about 2 minutes to go.

Just wow.

If you were trying to pick the exact wrong time to stop paying attention - you nailed it perfectly!

I commented to my family after the icing with @46 seconds left that if the Jets somehow tied it up, that would be a big point of focus. Blues player had a ton of ice in front of him and just fired it over the crossbar…not a great play.

Was rooting against St. Louis b/c I hate Blues fan Riggs from the Barstool golf podcast.

As a casual fan I have no idea why I started paying attention with a few minutes left. Weird.
Blues-Stars would've been such a typical of hockey, who cares 2nd round series. Better story with the Jets moving on.

Its pretty amazing how many bad calls lead to big swings in games. Panthers pressing for the big comeback and refs swallow whistle and leads to Toronto break away which may save the collapse

ha ha. that's hilarious. You ignore the fact that Sam Bennet elbowed Stolarz in the head, knocking him out of the game.. No call... or the complete phantom cross check call on Domi. The only reason the Panthers were in a position to tie was because Woll let in a couple softies which wouldn't have happened had Stolarz still been in.

Panthers are the dirtiest team in the league. This is something everyone pretty much agrees on aside from Panthers fans.

Exactly. Not to mention Tkachuck taking a run at Marner at the end of regulation. Scumbags. Dress Reaves next game to take care of Bennett and Tkachuck

Certainly lends understanding as to how Marchand was a natural fit.

Oh, for the return of Zack Kassian. :)

I used to go to Panthers games occasionally when I was in south Florida…4-5 years ago I could get a ticket for $8. Always wanted them to be better and actually draw fans.

Them turning into the greasiest team I’ve seen in the last two decades makes me regret ever rooting for them. They are now Big John era Georgetown basketball on ice. The league is letting them get away with way too much - I worry the NHL is headed for a Bertuzzi-Moore incident where players take the law into their own hands because the league won’t.

That was the best I've seen Edmonton play in their own end over the last several years. Maybe they're afraid if they don't perform for Pickard, they'll get Skinner back?

How do you miss that call in OT ref? ARVEDSON with a can opener injuring McNabb. Then Oilers win . Bad look

I saw several other obvious trips, both in game 1 and last night. It's my guess there's a general "We don't want that call" especially in tight games, coming from higher up. The other possibility is the ref had let McNabb (who is no choir boy) do the same thing earlier and was evening it up.

Wouldn’t it be crazy if instead of having to have the refs call / not call things based on an amorphous standard composed of part unwritten rules / part score effects / part who did what to who before now/ they just actually called the game correctly from the jump so all the evening out formulas could be tossed ?
