They won’t see the floor at St. John’s with the way they both play defense. Even Pitino can’t fix Moore’s olay defense.
I have to disagree with you here. It would be interesting to see what Pitino could do with Moore and Freeman - not that I want to see them leave. I think both would be at least decent defenders under Pitino.

Regardless of what people think of Pitino the person, he always seems to squeeze the most out of his players.

Moore and Freeman are so fundamentally poor defensively it will be difficult to break their bad habits. Moore tries, but Freeman makes no effort guarding. Moore has more toughness, but Freeman is as soft as they come. Pitino doesn’t want to rely on freshman because they have so much to learn. These two would be like starting over. Pitino has already said he wants tough, experienced players. These two are neither. People who say SU should pay $2 million for Freeman are nuts. You could get three very solid players for $2 million that could play both ends of the floor.

Watching Florida and Tennessee play only exasperates how far we have to go to compete against this level of talent. We currently have no one who would play on either of these teams. Their talent levels are way beyond SU. Every guy just goes after the ball. They play fast, tough and can handle. The biggest difference is the size and physicality of every player. They have big, strong bodies. Red’s next change has to be the strength and conditioning coach. We can’t hide our small, weak bodies in the zone anymore.

I think you are going to be legitimately shocked at the inflation this year. NIL is going to have a big increase organically, and on top of that we’re going to have schools paying players directly.

I think a guy like Lampkin would be worth double what we paid him this year, and a guy with Freeman’s potential is going to get way more than even that.

This is where the forbidden idea of “Private Equity” would come in handy.

If they can increase attendance by 10k, they make millions of dollars additional per home date.

If they borrow, say, $5 million dollars against future earnings, and load up on five great starters for the basketball team, they make a tremendous financial return on increased attendance.

But the program’s in completely different silos and thinking outside the box is impossible.

There might also be a problem with NCAA rules, but if, in seven seasons, we get a slap in the wrist, it’s probably worth it.

The people in charge of the program don’t seem to be innovative in any way, so we’re constantly behind the curve, and it’s down in results.

Red has done a good job managing the program in a few ways, but considering roster building and in game coaching are 1A and 1B in importance, his succeeding in every minor way is irrelevant.

I’m still not getting all this loan talk. At this time SU cannot pay “NIL” to players. So what does a loan do?

I watched UAB play North Texas yesterday. Every player on UAB was a monster. And that’s a low D1 team. We’re woefully behind the times and treating S&C as an afterthought

While we do have ways to go. This was our strongest and muscle built team we have had in a long time. A reason that the one area we were pretty good in was rebounding.

Did we run off, or did they choose to find greener pastures?

Kadary
Goodine
Braswell

Cause all three of those guys would have been nice to have this year
Yeah it’s nice having 32 year old college players

And Florida coached by Todd Golden. Coached three mediocre seasons at San Fran. Got the Florida job and immediately went 16-17.
Most would say the guy would be a failure.
This is what gives me a grain of hope with Red.
If we can fill the stables with work horses we might overcome his coaching deficiencies.

Yes I think you are completely correct. Not only will there be inflation on portal players but the better teams will spend money to retain their best players so the quality going into the portal will be less than in previous years

Yes to this and the big time SEC are all top heavy with seniors so they will be the most active and they are the teams and programs with the deepest pockets.

To think Syracuse is going to get the best PG because we have money to spend is crazy. Bama, Tennessee, and Florida off the top of my head all have senior PGs logging major minutes that are graduating that those programs will spend top dollar to bring in the best replacements.

Perhaps but San Fran made the NCAA tournament the season he left. Then year over year UF got better. As of now Syracuse is going backwards.

Prices are going to go up, so you better make sure you’re spending wisely to get your monies worth. Freeman is not worth that kind of money. The only thing he’s decent at is defensive rebounding. He’s a horrible offensive rebounder because he has no motor. He’s a pretty good shooter for a big, but not a knock down shooter. He should get better but he has a long way to go on both ends of the court. SU will have around $7.5-8 million (including NIL tournament) available for NIL. They might be able to scrounge up a little more if they really want someone. If Freeman is our best player, we are not a NCAA team. Not even close. He should be option three or four on a good team. So if prices are going up and he deserves #2 million, where is the money to pay two or three others more than $2 million? You have to pay the entire roster. St. John’s spent around $3.5-4 million (per N.Y. Post article) for their current roster. Kadary is their highest paid at $1.2 million. They would not pay $2 million for Richmond. It’s going to be a fascinating portal season. We will know very quickly who we are going after. What players ask for will not be what they may get. There’s going to be a lot more sophistication in selecting rosters this year. Ask Kansas how paying $2 milllion for a bench player worked out. The one thing that’s not clear is Donnie’s health. Was he playing hurt all year? I thought he limped all season. Maybe that was responsible for his explosiveness or the coaching staff’s time management. It might explain his lack of agility and inability to slide his feet on defense.

All aspects of our program need to be upgraded. Players, coaching, nutrition, S&C.

I know it’s a little thing but do you notice our players on the court with their shirts not tucked in. They look like a summer AAU team; so disorganized. And it’s obviously a lack of discipline and attention to detail coming from the coaches.

To be fair, I’ve watched players with untucked jerseys all week, including Duke. We have older uniforms that have tops not long enough. They’ve been a problem all year. They barely tuck in. Currently #2 on Tennessee has his shirt not tucked in.

Richmond would get over 2 million if he was on the market this year. It will be a different market this year every team has more money. And the player pool of senior level players will be limited compared to last year.

I don't think Freeman will get 2 million but him getting offers between 1 - 1.5 million will be common in this market. He will be more sought after than Lampkin, and we have given him close to a million last year. If Lampkin was on the market this year he would be over a million.

Syracuse being down on a national level and Red being a "lame duck coach" we are going to have to overpay by alot to get players to stay and come. It is called being crappy for a decade tax.

Guys, I am not going to be specific because when I told you what Red's contract was, I got push back. But unlike last year, we have NIL money. Plenty of it. Will we have it next year if we have another dud of a season ,no idea? But we have it this year and we will be better prepared for the portal by a long shot than last year.

Yes, we are going to get a high level PG and a really good C. We are going all in.

Agreed. Everything from top to bottom needs to be improved. I think next year will be better and we will spend $ to improve talent. However, the most impactful change has to occur at the top. You need a dynamic and effective leader to instill a vision, instill offense, defense and manage every aspect of the program. I think we all know that Autry is not that.

But we still have Red at the helm.

Not sure how you can be sure of that as who is going to knock the doors to come here knowing how bad of shape the program is in and a lame duck coach.

We have seen no sign that he is that guy. Quite frankly, there is so much wrong with what he has done so far that it makes me fearful that he has too much to learn and change. If it was just instill offense, defense and manage the program, I might be more optimistic. But incredible, it's more than that. It's the every aspect that is the killer.

The only “pay to play” money can come from the University (if lawsuit is approved by the judge). All monies coming from outside sources (True NIL) will have to be substantiated if it’s more than $600 per contract. This is what the NCAA is working on. Monies will have to be included in a software database. Could someone offer a true NIL contract for big bucks? Absolutely, but the committee set up to oversee this has a value added for every money making NIL opportunity. You won’t get away with with a car dealership paying $1 million for a commercial. The question they haven’t figured out is what will be the penalty if you are “paying to play” outside from the University.
