2024-25 Portal

Funny I had the same idea.

Maybe just sitting out a year after a free transfer year.

I don’t know the solution but this wild west can’t be long term. Doesn’t seem sustainable.
It's sustainable for the end goal of the SEC and Big 10, which is to take the mid majors out of the TV contract

Pretty sure the DOJ has said the ncaa can’t ever restrict transfer eligibility. So I would probably get used to it?

The answer is likely going to be some kind of collectively bargained multi year contract situation?
Won't stop people from suggesting salary caps, transfer restrictions, or draft restrictions here...as if they were the first to think of it...

This guy has tremendous metrics. He would help us in offense and defense a lot.
I watched a lot of Arkansas St this year and their final against Troy; Conerway was great. He’s an alpha point guard that we need to lead our team

From Arkansas St, Pinion and Nelson also hit the portal. I’m sure they’re going to South Florida but both would be excellent for Syracuse as well

Being a successful mid-major is almost a guarantee to lose the top player(s) to high level programs. The whole thing has gone so far. It has to get a little more checks and balances. All for free will and payment but as has been said a thousand times, it’s chaos currently.

Wonder if Pitino gets a P5 job and Dent goes with him?

Nah he will go to Kentucky - Bama - Tennesse - Florida (all have senior PGs that are leaving)- etc or maybe to St Johns? He is the best player in the portal currently and maybe the best player that will enter the portal this cycle this year. He is going to make big bank.

I agree. One of those 4 SEC schools would make sense.

Man, the Kentucky/Bama/Tennesse/Florida fans must be nervous to have their PGs graduating while knowing Red Autry and Syracuse are on the prowl for a PG in the portal.

It needs to be done based upon academic eligibility, if at all.

Yup and this is entirely a creation of the NCAA. By dragging their feet and pretending there wasn't revenue/payment issue, they got forced into a new environment from the courts and that's never the best option for anyone.

So the problem is they can't really do anything about it. If they try to put a cap on anything they will just go back to doing things under the table again. Once the cat was out of the bag I don't know how to walk it back now. Only way will be some kind of contracts or something, but I don't know.

I read that a number of transfer portal entries are actually out of eligibility but still putting their names in just hoping that the rules change and everyone will be granted 5 years. That Middleton kid from NCST in the transfer portal for example is technically out of eligibility. Need to see when looking at portal names if they already have played 4 years and just hoping for a rule change.
