2024-25 Portal

lol

listening to JB I highly doubt red goes for the low major players again in the portal

he will go for p5 transfers I bet
Lots of mid major players have had a big impact moving to P5. Look at Dalton Knecht.

The question is: Do we have confidence this team of coaches can find those players and put them in the best position to succeed?

Based on two years of evidence, I don't believe these coaches can identify and land the players they need to play the style of basketball they promised. Also, I think they lack the ability to teach any players to play the style they promised. I hope they prove me wrong next year.

Very curious how much the market will go up this year with the universities' 20m in play and with supply down due to no more 5th year seniors. I wonder if an elite PG will be more like 2.5-3m this year instead of 1m. Same with centers.

If we get another year of having to pretend that P5 washouts are gonna get us to the tournament im going to scream
my point was just that they tried to go for small conference players this year...and they couldnt make the leap to power conference bball

i doubt they will try again this upcoming season

i dont think p5 washouts are some magic fix...but i would prefer players with the basic athleticism required over those without it

whoever they get they will have to do due diliigence and pick wisely...can they? idk

Carlos, Davis and Taylor were all guys expected to be 7-9 in the rotation at best.

If Bell doesn’t collapse, Westry doesn’t get sick, Freemen doesn’t get hurt, McLeod isn’t injured, and we actually found our starter at point guard in the portal, those guys are deep depth that rarely played.

Red didn’t do a good job this year, but on paper, Lampkin, Freeman, Bell, Starling and (PG transfer) with Westry, McLeod, Davis, Cuffe, Taylor and Carlos as our second string looks like a good team.

But, Taylor, Davis, and Carlos as starters? Not so much.

We don’t know exactly when they knew or what they knew, but the team they have and the team they expected to have aren’t the same.

Eh, some of these things were known. JJ and Bell haven't played defense in their career and no one should have expected otherwise. Red even said that they planned on outscoring teams. Bell is shooting about as well as he did last season, but he can't stay on the floor because his defense is non-existent and he doesn't do much more on offense to make others better. Westry hadn't played in two seasons for various reasons and counting on him to do more than a few spot minutes would have been foolish. Naheem is a senior and has averaged 11 minutes per game in his career. Freeman is a frosh and its hard to rely on them to be a key component to any team.

The roster was flawed from the get-go and Red didn't bring in any difference makers.

I mean I get what you are saying but also this is 100% on the staff for what you just said.

They knew going into this season Westry was an unknown so why would you rely on him?

They knew McLeod was nimble and not great moving around on the court

They missed out on their top PG targets

Sure I’ll give you freeman getting hurt and I think he’s very good. But hard to rely on a freshman to lead a team.

Bell and Starling were suppose to be the guys to lead this team and take us to the tourney. Both have regressed SIGNIFICANTLY. That’s on the coaches

Only positive spot about this team in all honestly has been Lampkin. I will say Taylor has been pretty decent too. But he needs to be more consistent. But that’s about it

No. This staff is horrible at evaluating players and assembling a coherent roster.

If Kline’s recommendations aren’t (a) spot on and (b) accepted fully by Red, then we’ll suck again.

Remember what Rothstein said when he visited pre-season? Something like there's a lot of pretty good players but no great player? That was in October when everyone was healthy and playing.

They need to get two big time stars from the portal and put the right role players around them.

I’m just going to remind folks again that there is a gigantic difference between Power 5 conferences, mid major conferences and low major conferences.

The reality is that there are very few mid major conferences. Basically, those are leagues who can regularly get at large teams into the tourney. We’re talking about the Mountain West, A-10, American and West Coast.

Everything else is a LOW major. One bid leagues.

There may be acquisitions to be had for the very best MID major players. But we should have nothing to do with LOW major transfers. Nothing. Nada.
