It means the guy piled up counting stats on a bad team. Like JJ Starling just did. That doesn't mean he's capable of starting and performing well at a P5 level.

Unless there is some incontrovertible, fundamental data that these guys can compete at a P5 level, I'd pass.

I think the portal will be full of players with warts. That is why it is difficult to predict how any team is doing to do with it. If they did not have warts, they would be going pro. And then you are going to need depth pieces also.

100%. But it is my feeling it’s Avery difficult get. Not sure $$$$ will be available to due escalation in values. We’ll see if GM can identify best available player and then land them. If it’s a bidding war, I’m not comfortable with our chances. Last year portal not all on coaching staff. They identified who the wanted but didn’t have the cash to get them. That’s on not raising enough NIL. SU clearly has more funding however so does everyone else. Not unlike a cost of living increase. By the time you get it you are already behind. Going to need much due diligence and maybe more luck. Long, long, long time fan.

Him and Donnie are the only ones from this roster I actually want to stay.

If you pair him with a solid point guard(with a competent coach), he could do well.

If a player has negative defensive metrics at a low/mid major, they won't be able to defend in the ACC. Period.

If someone can show me the outliers, that would be fantastic.

The players that have succeeded in the ACC or above from low/mid majors were All-Conference 1st team level guys

His PER for 2 years is 11 and 13. His defense is terrible too and and they have been a bubble team with him as a starter. I repeat Red will be fired if he’s the point guard here next year. Rich mans Carlos.

IMO Red will be fired after next year regardless of who the point guard is. He simply cannot coach and is in over his head

Right now some people will say yes. Then when we whiff on a bunch of guys they'll say we never did. NIL is the Get Out of Jail Free card that provides cover forever.

If it's an issue this offseason, then the people who have been laughably dying to blame Kline will actually have something legitimate to complain about, as he's supposed to have been helping raise money as part of his job.

Yes! Please give us some defense. I don’t care if the guy can score 18 a game if he can’t defend do not sign him.

Give me a roster full of 3 and D guys.

Moore is going to go somewhere a lot better than Siena. He was offered by Bama, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Illinois in HS. I put his failures more on us than him this year.

Moore does not play defense and now everyone can see it. Maybe someone thinks they can get him to play D.

Unless Red can find a player like Billy who played at Oak Hill and on good USA younger teams as his point guard, we are in trouble.

Sweet 16 will not only save Red’s job, but will give him an extension.

And they still aren’t anywhere near the bubble. That’s how much we have to improve. A terrible loss in the OOC to Butler and a loss against the 9th place team in the SEC in Mississippi State.

I suspect people are jaded because of how any critiques of the guys we brought in via the portal last year were savaged. And those guys, aside from Lampkin, were low major players who clearly were insufficient to populate a tournament qualifying team.

I’m throw my lot in with that. If Kline brings in several low major guys then they better well all pan out to a wild degree. But I’m skeptical of that.

I’ll keep reiterating my point: those guys were not the caliber of player we need to be a tourney team. All of them would be OK as a 9th man on a very good team.

We were 14-19. At some point we have to acknowledge that who took the floor wasn’t nearly good enough.

Agreed. JD wasn’t the problem. He played at the historical level of a 5th or 6th man. The bigger issue was the lack of elite players at the top of the roster.

Davis as the second power forward and second or third small forward getting 10 minutes a game would have been fine. As a starter, he was well below quality ACC caliber. But he was intended as depth in the first place. Nobody in their right mind thought he would play starters minutes instead of Bell or Freeman.

He's a really good big man that can definitely play at the Power 4 level.
