Depending on where Chilsolm plays next year, the team can upgrade at two of these three positions: 1B, 2B, and 3B.

We're stuck with DJ for two more seasons.

If we go all-in on Soto, Ben Rice will be playing 1B next year.

If my math is right, the Yankees have approx $50M of collective bargaining payroll for guys who either won't be there, or weren't a factor in the playoffs.

Hicks - $10M (final year, yay)
Rizzo - $6M buyout
DJ - $15M
Stroman - $18.5M (he should at least be contributing next year during the regular season)

All told there is $190M committed and the cap is $241M. They went well over it this year and will pay $55M in tax. How far will Hal be willing to go over it next year?

As an outsider who doesn't like the Yanks and has no special attachment to any players

Regarding the options, the decisions should all be easy. Keep Weaver, Decline Rizzo (.680 OPS last 2 years), Decline Trivino. I seriously doubt Gerritt Cole opts out, so don't extend him for an age 39 season.

With respect to arbitration, keeping in mind that you can't offer a salary decrease (there are cases you can drop by 20%) there are a few to debate. Everyone else you offer arbitration.
Grisham at $5.5
Berti at $5.8
Trevino at $2.8
Mayza at $3.6

Mayza was a quality reliever between 2021-2023. He was a disaster with the Jays, statistically OK with the Yanks. I think you roll the dice and offer him arb and a probable $4M contract.

Grishom. Berti. Trevino are all in the same place. Servicable bench players, but if there is young depth you have to let them go, and use your funds elsewhere (I don't know enough about the Yanks). I suspect they keep Berti because of his flexibility.

In terms of free agents, obviously make a competitive offer to Soto. Torres maybe offer something like 2/$25 which seems fair... if not good enough for him he is interchangeable for other FA's. That seems the case with the rest of the lot as well.

We have to add the year to Cole's contract, right?

Let him walk. Staring pitching is blah, The back end of that contract would be brutal. save money to resign soto.
