2024 PLL Season

Looks like no Kennedy or Mark in the Whipsnakes lineup this week. Dordevic is likely out a few weeks with a foot injury.

Stevens or Porter in lineup this week?

Stevens has visa issues (as do all the rookie Canadians). Porter was left off the 21 man-lineup. No 'Cuse players this weekend (Redwoods have the week off, so no Cole Kirst).

Stevens will get playing time this season. Dordevic will also once he's healthy.

And of course, Kirst is going to get a lot of opportunities with the Redwoods. They're just not playing this weekend.

Hope Kennedy sees some time.

Any insight on Alex Simmons? Just came off a big NLL season (rookie of the year and played in the finals). Didn’t seem like he played outdoors at all last year. Do you think he’ll get midfield runs for the Redwoods?

Redwoods will probably dress between 8-9 offensive personnel, and I'd lean towards 8. They've got about 11 offensive players in their 25 man roster.

Assuming Pannell, Garnsey, Gray, Kirst, and Dennis are locks. That leaves Berg, Bertrand, Montgomery, Simmons, Degnon and Tierney competing for three spots. Anderson will be back some day as well. I'd lean towards Bertrand and Montgomery getting spots for now, which leaves Berg + Simmons, Degnon, and Tierney. I think all three had goals in their scrimmage against Atlas, and Degnon had at least 2. And then there's also Berg, who's super experienced.

So, the short answer is I have no idea. I'd like to think the coaching staff wants to see what he can do in game action, but roster spots are at a premium. I'd lean Degnon getting that last spot to start. But Montgomery can go both ways, so that might affect the number of offensive players they can dress.

Unfortunately, I think it'll be tough for him to see extended minutes this season unless they move away from Bertrand or if Dennis has another rough year.

I honestly don’t see why dennis is so highly regarded. Don’t get me wrong dude has a hammer of a shot but feel the cons outweigh the pros for him. He is not very good passer and isn’t much of dodger. His accuracy is n has not been very good plus he’s a high volume shooter. He doesn’t create his own shot much in my opinion. As said yes he has hammer but ultimately he has struggled in non-sixes and don’t get why still game day roster. Maby he breaks out this time but think other players overall better than him.

I totally agree. Maybe year two with the Woods will allow him to be more comfortable. But if Degnon can be the outside shooter he was in college, I don't know if a struggling Dennis is going to see the field as much.

The variable here is the value placed on veteran leadership. Dennis wouldn't be the first player to get a game day spot in spite of limited production due to things we don't see on game day (i.e. leadership in practice and the locker room).

The Woods have depth on offense. I still think Dennis gets the early nod but I'd expect to see guys like Simmons, Tierney, and Anderson sprinkled in if a veteran struggles.

I could be wrong (and often am), but something tells me Degnon is going to be a fixture in this lineup in the best possible way for the Woods.

Based on Troutner's play today for the Atlas, I don't think we should expect to see much of Porter this season.

the Shrmdougluvrs got to hand around PLL some this year and are at todays game. You can catch us and our dogs on YouTube in vlog 1 checking out Waterdogs practice.

Some observations:
  • As always the players, league staff; and coaches were super friendly.
  • Except Rabil, who always acts above everyone else. I wouldn’t say he’s a jerk, but he doesn’t make any attempt to engage.
  • It was tough picking out Cuse kids other that Drake and Cole.
  • At the game today and am convinced outlaws have the worst coaching in the league.
  • Level of play is super high.
  • Brennan ONeil ran out of the box, which is fine, but he’s not on the field nearly enough.
  • Also, I was shocked that a league with a business model that seems to be 90% branding and merch sales couldn’t find a way to get him #34.
  • The players get a lot of 5/6 “ouwie” injuries. That’s what happens when you wear as little padding as possible.
  • Albany seems a little “lacrossed out.” Wouldn’t shock me if they skip us next year. Just a different vibe this year.
  • UAlbany’s football turf is beat to hell.
  • My kids’ club practice starts here Tuesday night. Can’t wait to watch them all firing muffins from two-pt range.

Thanks very much Shrm for your extensive summary. You wouldn't say it but I will. He is a jerk. Rabil. He probably thinks the PLL is all about him. But what do you expect? He's Hopkins guy and he hates everything and anything about Syracuse. Ask him, he'll tell you. I'm surprised he allows any SU kids in the league. If they're not in Albany next year, we know where they won't be - Syracuse. Would make too much sense. Thanks again. I hope you and your kids enjoyed it. [P.S. did your family have any Syracuse gear on? If so, probably why he didn't engage.]

Because him and Paul Rabil are bffs, I agree with you totally

Whips have released Will Mark to the player pool, which is an interesting choice to say the least due to their goalie play this past weekend. . .

They know they can call him back up if one of the goalies continues to struggle

Simmons made the "protected" roster for the Woods as well. Looks like Kirst will be the only SU grad from the Orange this weekend.

dox didn’t score first goal of game nor did he score dont believe seem part of cause for the lost. Lol
