2024 Schedule

Blame the "Boss" they said

my question would be is it time or money thats the issue with getting it done?

No idea on how it gets done.
Will they be needing cranes or whatever.
Are the seats installed as a unit or in pieces

DO they need to make fixes to the concrete when the old pieces come out?

Is there a time when the can remove things but we wont actually have the new seats to start the install?

It would seem like you could work more hours to get things done but thats money too?

Bruce Springsteen says no.
so is it that or commencement thats the bigger deal?

I would think you could pretty much take a whole section out of the concrete in a couple hours. A crew to unbolt and a crew to move it to the ground if they are using cranes? You could do top and bottom at the same time since they could be on opp sides of each other. You could have 4 crews going if you wanted.

We failed the coaches and the players with this schedule. We failed our season ticket holders.

Why can't we hire a competent person for scheduling and address this long standing issue?
I’m ready to take it on.
@ADJW, feel free to contact me directly.

also if you look at tickets. how do they sell tickets behind the stage for the concert?

They aren't for this (don't think).

Otherwise there's no backdrop for a Bruce show, and he'll play to the back of the crowd (arena shows).

I don’t understand why seats aren’t already being installed. There’s plenty of locations in the Dome that are not being used for basketball or lacrosse. At least start removing bleachers.

Removal of the existing seats is a pretty quick process

It’s the placement of the new seats that will likely eat up time

The ACC is responsible for 66% of the schedule, and also dictates much of where the other matches are played.

We also had an extremely rare scenario where a scheduled game dropped off our schedule 2 months ago.

"We" didn't fail anyone with this schedule. The sky isn't falling.

yeah.. I figure once you get them out you probably have to do something to the surface? Opoxy the holes. Buff out the concrete? Maybe its time to paint/seal the surface when its free of stuff? Might be a month of that to do?

Would seem to be the best time to do that. Patch/fix/re-seal. Then put the seats in.

Yup key point...they have concrete work. Staircases are being widened.

Great time to power wash section by section too.

This will take months

No one is saying the sky is falling.

If you are familiar with the history of the program, you would know this is one of many instances where we have done a poor job scheduling,

At some point, we need to do better.

It is hard to win consistently at the P5 level. The athletic department needs to do their part to schedule in a way that is conducive to win games and go to bowls.

To September 7th? It looks like they have that date booked with New Hampshire. I guess that could be moved but that seems unlikely.

I don't see us playing BC 9/7. Yes, they are open that weekend but they play FSU on Monday 9/2. No way they will play us short two days of rest. I think BC got boned and will have to take a bye on week 2.

Looking at things closer, it looks like SU and GT are the only ACC teams with no game scheduled for 9/7. They might both get it as a bye but that would be crazy early for a bye for 2 ACC teams, even for the ACC scheduling team. I suspect there is a reason they both kept this weekend open. Pretty sure they will play each other 9/7.

We have all our OCC games now and 9/14 is open. I checked and all the ACC schools we play this year are already booked on that date. This implies we have no one to play and are taking a bye on 9/14. Someone could always reschedule an OOC game late to change this but I feel pretty confident this is one of our bye dates.

99% sure the other bye date is before the Pitt game on 10/19.

More cleanup. I initially had us playing a home game on 10/12, which I think is a no go given that weekend is Yom Kippur. We will very likely to play on the road that weekend. So I made changes accordingly.

Put it all together and this is my latest working copy of what our schedule is going to be.

2024 Schedule

Date Opponent Time/TV Comments
Saturday, August 31stOHIO
Saturday, September 7thGEORGIA TECHSU & GT only ACC school open this week
Saturday, September 14thBYE 1Usually have a bye before a weekday game
Friday, September 20thSTANFORD
Saturday, September 28thHOLY CROSS
Saturday, October 5that UNLVReplaces the cancelled game at Army
Saturday, October 12that NC State?Yom Kipper; SU likely on the road
Saturday, October 19thBYE 2Normally have a bye the week before a weekday game
Thursday, October 24that Pittsburgh
Saturday, November 2ndVIRGINIA TECH?
Saturday, November 9thMIAMI?
Saturday, November 16that California?
Saturday, November 23rdUConn?probably YS
Saturday, November 30that Boston CollegeWe usually play BC the final week of the season
Homecoming has to occur somewhere in here and it is usually the first weekend of October which is not an option this year given the game in LV against UNLV. The latest I remember it is the last weekend in October, so the Nov. 2nd date with VT in the Dome could happen but, I would probably switch your VT and NCSt dates and put VT at home Oct. 12 as Homecoming and NCSt away on Nov. 2nd. That gives you one home game in Oct. and one home game in Nov. assuming UCan't is at YS. Strange year.

Not sure if I want NYNY or Mandalay Bay.

Will book soon though the JetBlue directs are good and I can watch football on the outbound.

Vegas lost its appeal when legal sports gambling came east no more extended trips but a 2-3 night short one will be great.

I think I had that at one point but VT plays BC on Thursday, October 17th.

As Chris02M says, maybe you can play on the Saturday before a Friday night game but the ACC has a hard rule that you get a bye the week before you play on Thursdays.

So VT is not an option for us on 10/12.

I think you could do Miami that week though. But that weekend is Yom Kippur. I think SU tries hard to avoid scheduling a home game then.

I don't want to minimize the complexity involved in scheduling a season for football in the ACC. There are tons of factors involved. Every school had their needs and you are never going to get close to everything you want.

I am always going to be unhappy when we only have 6 home games. And when we have to play 6 straight weeks in a year where we have 2 byes. That is not good.

Let's see what we get. Maybe they can move things around so we can take a bye on 9/28. That would help some.

Yeah, my bad. The future schedule page on this site says ND at home. That needs to be adjusted. Everything else I can find shows us at ND in both 2025 and 2026.

Bummer.

Hope they adjust it all for Cal, Stanford, SMU.
I've seen posts on boards that say that Stanford will continue to play ND every year but those games won't be a part of those played under the ND-ACC agreement.

Good catch. Missed the VT game on Oct. 17 and forgot about Yom Kippur. Probably makes Homecoming the HC game of Sept. 28, which would be early. No home games in October seems strange but again, this feels like an odd year especially with the seating changes and only six home games with four of them in Sept. Go figure.

I saw this article about it. Auerbach's tweet doesn't really make sense though. Everyone still plays 8 other ACC games in ND years.

Why would we not play a home game on Yom Kippur? Whats the difference if we play home or away that day...

I've seen that too. Probably a good thing for the ACC

With conference realignment changing things literally every year, they are completely hamstrung with what they can actually do with the schedule.

If Army stayed on the schedule it would've looked a lot better. If the ACC didn't add Stanford and Cal and SMU it would've looked a lot better. If ND didn't change the whole ACC scheduling landscape it would be better. If we didn't have to play Thursdays it would be a lot better.

Of course the AD has to do their part but when scheduling for CFB is done years in advance for OOC, and 8 months before the season for ACC play, there are too many variables.

I predict Holy Cross...

SUNY ESF is having it that weekend...not sure if they have them same weekend as ESF though.

Observant Jews can't go to the game. Someone who is Jewish can correct me if I'm wrong
I think you are right but I believe historically, Syracuse has tried at least, not to play a home game on Yom Kippur weekend.

This goes back to when I was a student reading articles about it in the DO. But even in recent years, it seems whenever we do a deep dive into the schedule, this comes up as a consideration. I think this is a standing request SU makes to the ACC when the football schedule is made.
