2024 Toronto Blue Jays Season

" Are they lacking some important skill that enables other teams to come back from three run deficits?"
I don't know and I don't care. Fact is they've lost every game since July 2023 in that situation, and nobody else has. Why?
I
Dont
Care.

I only care that it is. Im not saying its predictive going forward of jack squat.
To answer your condescending "is it important to you and your simple caveman way of statistical interpretation vs my high brow intellectually superior understanding of data"

YES. its important to me because im a fan of the team and they LOST all those games. See i am a fan of a team. The results are what Im interested in. Not the "expected" results.

I am glad we got to the bottom of this. ;)

Jays have a bad bullpen this year / right now in part due to injuries and players performing well below norms (Mayza, Swanson in particular)
Jays have no power
Jays are hitting .199 with RISP
Jays act deflated and show bad body language when they fall behind.

Its not a recipe for coming from behind (in any situation)

I’m impressed. Manoah managed an entire 2/10 of a negative WAR in a meager few innings

And what do you know, Jays are down 3-0 tonight.

Do they buck the trend.
No chance.

Could see this one coming . Berrios was due for a correction given his FIP / ERA discrepancy as predicted in this text convo with a famous Syracusefan poster

jays are the only team in mlb to not win a single game in which they ever trailed by 3 runs or more since all-star break 2023.

Meanwhile they blew two games with a 3 and 5 run lead to the Nats this weekend .

The streak is finally over.
Jays come back from a 6 run deficit (7-1) in the early innings, and win 10-8.

I didn't think this offence was capable of outscoring a team with double digits, but somehow it did it (one time). At least Vlad is starting to hit (for average anyway) the last 10 games or so.

And they crash back to earth with 2 total hits vs a stiff. They stuck springer right back into the lead off spot like the morons they are

Anyone see the 7 1/3 PERFECT innings from a pitcher with an ERA over 5 vs our beloved impotents?

Nothing like the "state of the team" presser by the Jays GM being done on a Saturday Morning of a long weekend (in Canada)... 5 hours before game time. What a spineless clown.

Manoah is a solitary shining bright light in a season of feces

I will also give Manoah credit for losing a significant amount of weight between September of last year to now. Which probably helps him in the pitch clock era. This isn't the team where individual accountability over your weight typically exists

I'm hoping the weight loss was the reason he struggled mechanically in the minors to start the year - it does require adjustments And that now he has totally figured it out.

Unfortunately we don't hit HR's anymore.
3 HR tonight. obviously they didnt feel like hitting them without the jacket reward.

New week, new historic streak for offensive incompetence for the Jays.

Jays have now went 29 games without scoring in the first inning. A feat not accomplished since the 70s if I remember correctly from yesterdays broadcast.

Update on this. Tonight the streak was extended to 29 games, which is the second longest of ALL-TIME.

It is second all time, only behind the 31 games achieved by some team in 1937.
So this is the longest period of futility in 87 years... and by Sunday could be tied for the longest ever.

They finally broke the spell today. I have no idea how this team is only 2 games under

Got within 1 game of .500 (somehow) at the end of last week.

5 straight losses, and now our top offensive prospect dinged with a failed steroid test, after "claiming" to be using fertility drugs.

Going great!

Ultimate baseball is strange and random stat.

In the first 33 games of the season, the Blue Jays scored ZERO runs in the first inning.
In the last 42 games of this season, the Blue Jays scored 48 runs in the first inning.

And the increase in early scoring has coincided with giving up tons of late runs ! Net = still are bad !
