2025-26 Basketball Schedule

I don’t think a traditional single elimination tournament is an option. You can’t have teams blocking out 4 games of their regular season for this, lose their first game and then not play 3 OOC games.

18 is an awful number for a single elimination tourney as well. The ACC opted to stay with the existing tournament format for hoops and just exclude the three schools with the worst records for this reason.

I am guessing they do 3 6 team pods in part to ensure teams from the same conference do not play each other, at least not in their initial pod or group. The B1G, B12 and SEC all have 3 teams in the tournament so they could and probably will break them out in different group/pods.

I am guessing they try and set up the pods geographically when possible. Expecting to see us paired with St Johns, Rutgers, St Joes and a team from the SEC and B12.

That is all based on 3 six team pods. Who knows how they are going to end up setting things up……
4 teams from the Big XII.

I have a hard time remembering conference affiliation with Maryland (still!) And the Texas schools and the Arizona schools. And Utah, and freaking Nebraska and Oklahoma!
Is Central Florida somewhere good?!

Yes Central Florida is Big 12. The past 2 years when the Big 12 expanded is the first time I've really had trouble keeping things straight. I'd see the scores on tv and it took me a minute to figure out why Kansas and Kansas St were playing some of these teams in the middle of conference season.

Anything on the possibility of Cuse/UCONN next yr?

I remember there were rumblings. Anything new?

Ok so we got 13 non conference games with the new ACC change?

3 games for players era
ACC/SEC challange (Home)
Other game guesses based on history:
Lemoyne (Home)
Cornell (Home)
Colgate (Home)
Georgetown (Away)

So now we are at 8 games, of the remaining 5 games I would think for the NET we would want to try 1 neutral 2 home and 2 away.

These I think are some opponents I would consider for the remaining games not at the players era or SEC (It would make sense if that’s the hold up on the games being finalized and announced, we want to know an idea of our bracket there):
St Bonaventure
UConn (even if we get blown out, we can’t be scared to play these guys) (is it us that is preventing this game from happening or them is a pretty interesting question)
FAU (We could do this game on the road and pack their small gym with Cuse fans, may even be a Q2 game)
Temple
Memphis
Penn State
Providence
Seton Hall

As you can see, I think scheduling for success this upcoming season would consist of less games against lower end of mid major conference teams and more high mid major and lower profile power conference games. UConn being the exception if we can get that game in addition to the players era and ACC/SEC challenge.

I think a 5-game series with St. Bonaventure would be cool if they did 3 Syracuse, 1 Buffalo, and 1 Olean. I say we start in Buffalo this year... a host site for the big dance in 2025-2026. Would be cool to play a game there on the off chance that we make the Big Dance and are slotted there. Get some familiarity. Why not?

I suppose we could play UB there as an alternative. And yet I suppose it is most realistic to play at Dayton to get a preview of the play-in game arena... ha ha. More likely we would squeeze in as an 11th seed than end up in Buffalo as a 1-4 seed, right?

I wonder if Siena could get into the mix. Why not?

There's no upside to playing Siena. Only a massive downside. Not worth it at all.

I was thinking a decent fan turnout, which is never a bad thing for the dollars and cents side of things.

I would think Red would be working with the ADs office to schedule OOC for optimal NET win opportunities as sufan59 suggests.

He is, afterall, coaching for his job.

After the Player's Era tournament, if it's same ol same ol with early season local teams booked like Colgate, Cornell, Canisius, and/or other low-quad rank mid-majors etc., he may be really hammering nails in his own coffin. - especially if the NIL tournament performance is less than stellar.

If we fill in with a mix of mid major, low quad-ranked teams and it comes down to bubblewatch weekend where we are on the bubble lacking Q1/Q2 wins and/or have SOS problems, it could be a self-inflicted scheduling issue.

Seriously. Do we not do these anymore? It’s been a while and this year is as good (read: important) as any!
Under the current portal/NIL system, every off-season will be important because you are building a new roster and trying to get all of the disparate parts to meld annually.

I am going to assume no because of the cost of them.

Canada is. or at least it used to be.
Somebody made the point that our international players might not be allowed back in.

I don’t know how valid of a concern it is, but weird things have been happening with people getting detained.

It definitely is something I wouldn’t be messing around with if three of your top 8 players are foreign born….

We should never play in Olean again
