Rumor is Bill Self is going to hang it up. Looks like they’re going to go the successor route with Jacque Vaughn. I wonder if Schertz is hoping for a look there.

Yeah Self has had a ton of health issues, this year included. The job is such a grind at this point

Whoa. I really didn’t think he would. But yeah, I heard if he retires, Vaughn gets a crack at the job.

DeFilippo supposedly urged Boston sportswriter Bob Ryan to write some negative articles so he could get rid of him. Skinner lost both his 2 top assistants, Ed Cooley(Fairfield head coach) and Bill Coen(Northeastern head coach) because BC was doing so well, plus moving to the ACC hurt BC all within the same timeframe (around 2005-2006). He blamed Skinner for the declining fan attendance and lower rated recruiting classes deciding that it was his assistants no longer there responsible for their previous decade of good records. However despite sandwiched by 2 losing seasons (his first ever) in his last 3, Skinner led BC to the NCAA’s in 2008-2009. DeFilippo fired Skinner in 2010 and Jagodzinski in 2009 and “retired” in 2012. It was his last stint as an AD anywhere.

There's no love lost for DeFillipo amongst longtime UConn fans. Actually I think they're more fond of the Devil.

He’s been poached the last few years of gem players he’s found that bigger programs lure away. Tough position for him finding underrated players, developing them, then losing those good players and getting blamed for it.

I think he could be done. He seems to prefer developing players over roster turnover and building around OAD’s. He stuck it out when the old guard left, but he doesn’t have anything left to prove.

Vaughn has coached a few games this year with Self’s health issues and the ejection he caught this week. Who knows how much say Self will have in naming his successor, but the fanbase thinks they could get one of May, Golden or Tommy Lloyd and that Vaughn should merely be the fallback option (of course!)

I mentioned this a long time ago in a different thread. My uncle was a Bonnies booster. Not a big booster, but one nonetheless. He passed away after a battle with cancer. At his memorial Coach Schmidt showed up to pay his respects. Solid person. Loves the Southern Tier. I hope he enjoys retirement.
