So I realize that money talks but with so many folks still in love with Schertz, having him sign the extension after we couldn’t make a deal then he goes and interviews with NC State… gives me the same BH vibes of what can you do for me vs what I am going to do for your program. 2 mil a year is life changing money and at a school where the chances you get fired are zero… I mean if it’s that easy to bail out of a recently signed extension it wouldn’t be difficult to come to SU for a year or two and bail for the SEC

I think people underestimate Boeheim's role. How many coaches will take a job when they know the retired HOF'er constantly does media and is a bit unpredictable and could say anything off the cuff really.

Gmac can handle it but it's not a situation for every coach.

I wanted him too but man… but seeing this has me more thinking we avoided another coaching change after 1-2 years when he bails for the SEC. Just like BH is gonna likely do. I can deal with 4-5 years but this kind of stuff where these guys are all about 2 year shifts or less… at least if Gerry does well that is not ever a concern.

Essentially the only school like us was Duke at this time. Even Roy at UNC wasn’t a lifer. If Gerry works out it will be a matter of luck we had the right guy for the weird unique circumstances we are in.

It's another thing to just keep going to the well. At some point when you sign your name, it has to mean something. To me this is a bad reflection. Just my opinion.

We can twist anything and make it JB’s fault in any possible situation I guess. What did he ever say against Autry off the cuff to the media that hurt him? Or are you basing your opinion regarding a possible outside hire on just a second made up scenario? Did Boeheim say anything at all to the media about Schertz? I’ve listened to a number of his broadcasts, interviews and hadn’t heard him mention our coaching situation off the cuff to the media. Have you? Just wondering. It’s almost comical.

When all is said and done, it'll be interesting to see how many schools made a better hire after we were the best job expected on the market.

No way!!! The guy who was fired from LSU for something he never apologized for and something that is now legal always wanted to go back? No way!

That’s one calculating guy. He’s only 43 years old so there are many more deals in the future for him. Interesting - Clemson grad where he was a grad asst’t, never played the game but was hired by Amaker at Harvard his first year there - then Shaka Smart, in his first year at VCU too. Lots of great experience at a very young age.

Let’s see how this plays out with Schertz. Maybe it’s just smoke and there’s no fire. I get that LSU just did a crazy thing with Wade, but not all SEC schools are that free with their money for basketball. Many of them are focused on putting the vast majority of their money into football.

I mean he is (allegedly) interviewing for a job after signing an extension. That part on its own stands out to me leaving the SEC point aside… if it’s nothing then good. Even interviewing though and the position that puts SLU in…oof

Well, as the story goes we did close, as much as we could. We had a verbal but since they were still playing he couldn’t sign a contract unless he resigned from SLU. That wasn’t happening during the tournament.

Then as the story goes, a couple whales stepped up and significantly increased his financials. Salary or NIL I don’t know. So he recanted.

So NCSt will be going into this with eyes wide open. But they’ll be paying more for salary, budget and NIL than we would have. Let’s see if those whales step up again for SLU.
