Fran is one of the ten candidates mentioned in the article. Along with Lashlee & Mullen.

Probably some gamesmanship too. These programs probably don’t want Fran to flip players from their programs. Naming “possible” candidates could also include coaches from programs they don’t want to benefit from so many big name programs having so much uncertainty surrounding them.

I think thats great to say and commendable. That said, its easier to say that when you are already making $10 million a year and you are weighing a job offer at $15. I doubt he "doesn't make a money move," working for 750K and being offered 10 times that. I wouldn't ever fault anyone for doing the same.

Semi-strong(?) rumor posted on our board that James Franklin has signed with VPI and they're not announcing it yet so he can go out and recruit. The first part makes sense even if the second part doesn't.

If I am Maryland I make the move for Franklin. Locksley is 2-13 in conference the last 2 years and about to be 2-15 going into a winnable game vs Michigan State.

I don't doubt that Franklin has a deal in place with VA Tech, but he has no reason to sign on before all the chips fall. If he did then it would be announced.

Heck FSU might even want him. His deal with Penn State could allow for a back loaded contract to help offset the costs of Norvell.

Franklin was supposed to be the coach-in-waiting at MD for when Ralph Friedgen was to leave. He surprised them by going to Vanderbilt instead. I wonder if anyone in College Spark still has hurt feelings about that.

That was a strange situation. Why have a HCIW for a guy barely over 60?

Franklin accepted Vandy before Fridge was fired. Then when you fire Fridge for going 8-4, do you expect the HCIW to change his mind and stay on?

It was a mess created by the AD.

Maybe Edsall 2.0

It's easier to win at Virginia Tech than at Maryland.

What does "win" mean? Is it easier to be ACC champ than B1G champ? Yes, but is it easier to make the playoffs? I say no. I think being Top 15 and being an at large is easier than winning the ACC.

There are a lot of mediocre to bad B1G teams right now: Washington, UCLA, Nebraska, Minny, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Illinois, Purdue, Michigan State, Rutgers, heck even Michigan. And Penn State is in turmoil. Plus Ferentz will eventually retire. Pretty much the entire B1G. It won't take a whole lot of work to get Maryland even or above most of these schools.

It is still the ACC vs B1G. And no one knows if the ACC will even exist in 6 years. It is easier to recruit IMO to MD. How is the NIL at MD vs VA Tech? It doesn't sound great at VA Tech from what they say publicly.

If Locksley can go 4-5 back to back years in the B1G then Franklin can go 6-3. That will put Maryland in the playoff conversation.

Where will Riley go? He's an offense guy who cares less about the defense. He's had two great places to prove himself but is known for not having a defense. Who would want that if they really are sincere about pursuing championships?

Riley is an offensive genius but really needs a defensive genius to help him.
