I just came up with a problem for #4.

Say Toronto in June 2026, chose Sacramento for its 2027 pick. The projected #1 pick is "Victor Wemby Jr". Sacramento is struggling in 2027. Its January 1, 2027, Toronto trades 2 future first rounder to Sacramento for 3 crappy second round picks to encourage Sacramento to tank.
 
I think both the wheel and abolishing the draft are kinda cool ideas that I would love to see in a simulation but probably would suck and/or have no real chance of happening.

When you think about how much of the league is driven by the transaction windows, the idea of removing the draft and not having teams able to make blockbuster deals is probably a no go.

Maybe they go back to the old way, where every team had equal chance of winning the lottery.

Its wild, I am looking at the first ever lottery; Warriors were tied for the worst record in the league and ended up with the last pick in the lottery!
 
Just kill the lottery and go by record and kill pick protections on trades.

That way at least you'll know who is outright trying to tank from game #1 because no one that tries for half a season would then be able to get a top 3 pick because it would be too late.
 
The NBA and Adam Silver should be embarrassed by the way the hockey game went down yesterday. Yes, it was for a gold metal but hockey players regularly reinsert themselves into games after getting stitched up or lose teeth. The NBA either needs to fix their back to back issue or fix their tanking issue. The better players need to play. Not sit, just because they have two games in a row and your team is angling for a better draft pick.
 
Tyrese Haliburton played on a bad calf in the NBA finals and ended up blowing his achilles. It was pretty famous! and it happened within the last 12 months!

Klay Thompson also tore his ACL in those finals and was trying to come back into game 6.

This leg injury stuff doesn't cut it.

Yes, ok, but that's a normal Tuesday in the NHL. You should know more than anyone. As a side note, I would love to be in Toronto if the Maple Leafs ever win the Stanley Cup. That's going to be a celebration.

I'm not. I'm embarrassed for the NBA for the direction the league has been going in regards to tanking. Hockey players are much tougher. Whether it's a regular season game or the Gold Metal game. And, like you guys, I'm a huge NBA guy.
 
Today Florio said almost five million people watched women's gold medal game. Nearly twice as many as average Stanley Cup final game.
Olympic hockey is it's own animal. The NHL fan is passionate but there aren't enough.

Apples and Zebras. Every hockey fan is a team USA fan. A lot of hockey fans wouldn’t watch th cup finals if their team isn’t playing
 
Spurs / Pistons last night was a great game. Wouldn't hate it if that were the NBA Finals (if the Knicks decide to bow out along the way).

Tanking and being tough are two different things. One is instigated at the front office level and one is a player level.

It also must be nice to have line changes, pads and skates. NBA players are also massive human beings compared to hockey players.

Try boxing out Jokic for a whole game for a guy that is seven foot and almost 300 pounds. Or try running and exploding for 34 minutes out of a 48 min game. These guys cant play through a broken bone in their leg because the demand of the game doesn't allow it.

NHL guys need to be called the toughest because they don't have anything else.

I agree and oddly I am more confident in the Spurs getting there than the Pistons. Wemby seems to be a different cat on the competitive scale (I know everyone in the league is competitive), but he was sending messages last night in the 4th quarter. He's a killer.

Yep, Austin Rivers was right - he may have had 6 blocks, but he altered over 20 shots.

The NHL guys play the same number of games but average 5-10 minutes less per game. And that’s just averages. NBA stars will play even more minutes than the nhl stars.

I think it's only a small exaggeration to say he affects every shot when he is on the court. Whoever has the ball for the other team always knows where Wemby is.

It seemed like the Pistons physicality was really getting to Wemby in the first half, especially on the offensive end. And then he just destroyed the game in the second, mostly on defense.

Yeah. He's a beast and the Spurs may overshoot their trajectory and get to the Finals this year.

Also, Duren had a nice run in the 2H against Wemby a bit. He really went at them. Just two enjoyable teams to watch.

Cade was horrendous which altered the game almost as much as Wemby. It would be a fun final.
