If this is what truly ends up happening, my gut was correct on what could end up happening. They will not pay for a non culture fit and they don't necessarily have the credibility yet to land the top targets that are culture fits. Everyone needs to relax with the expectations of contending for a national title in year 1. If we do, great. But providing evidence of a competent organization with a real culture and development program at this level is the main objective for year 1. Also by taking this approach, you can leave the door open to have the cash to get involved with any late bloomers later this spring in the USA or abroad that seems to happen every year.

How do you “pocket” NIL? NIL is a commitment and not just some random account held in escrow with money sitting in it… there is zero guarantee those donors with that commitment will be there the following year if things don’t go well…
Idk, you use those funds for 2027 high school recruiting or roll it over to the 2027 transfer portal. I wouldn't know, but I don't think there is a requirement to use everything for this portal cycle.

So without a collective that is managing those funds and instead going through individual groups of donors ( hopefully that changes soon), you have money raised, pledged/committed for NIL but unless its fully committed for multiple years you can’t really pocket anything…. NIL is a contract between the athlete and the third party be it a collective or specific donor. Thus you open yourself to the amount of funds available to contract to the athletes going away if you fail to maximize what is available and results don’t follow.

So say in this instance the burner account is accurate. So Gerry should get guys that don't fit what he is trying to build just to make sure he spends every penny of the NIL budget? Or pay more than the market rate of guys that do fit what he is trying to build and aren't as highly rated just to meet the NIL budget? Because the problem could be the top players denying his offers that do fit what he is trying to build that could help him meet his budget because they want to play for a more established coach right now.

Completely agree. No way is that the strategy. There is a good sized fan base (myself included) who was really disappointed by the GMac hire. I felt we settled and got forced into it. However, I'll always back Cuse and the fact that GMac was reportedly going to come with a lot of NIL, and I like Gerry, I eventually came around and I'm now in full support.
However, if I later learn that we didn't put ALL of our resources into the upcoming year to not only get into the ncaa tournament but compete, that would test my orange fandom to some degree. Also, that approach doesn't seem consistent with Gerry.
