Class of 2026 2025-26 Portal

Completely agree. No way is that the strategy. There is a good sized fan base (myself included) who was really disappointed by the GMac hire. I felt we settled and got forced into it. However, I'll always back Cuse and the fact that GMac was reportedly going to come with a lot of NIL and because I like Gerry, I eventually came around and I'm now in full support. However, if I learned that we didn't put ALL of our resources into the upcoming year to not only get into the ncaa tournament but compete, that would test my orange fandom to some degree. Also, that approach doesn't seem consistent with Gerry.
Well said and is how I felt with the hire and how things were presented.

They’ve already said how important to get this fixed now…makes me think that’s exactly what Gerry has in mind. He wants to win and win ASAP. Portal is open to the 17th, let’s see what happens here in the next few days. I don’t buy the holding it for next year….
lets remember, the 17th is the deadline for entering the portal. kids in the portal can commit whenever.

How do you know his source isn’t “plugged in”? Why can’t we just talk about something instead of attacking the mere thought of something you guys don’t like?

Because the takes don’t add up and bounce around way too much. They read like a combination of tidbits from pay sites or Trilly and a fan fiction overlay. Plus the behavior of such accounts is consistent with twitter parody and troll accounts.

If what that account is saying is accurate, here is what I'll say. I think Gerry wants to spend all of the resources, but he's not going to spend it just to spend it. If it takes spending it on bad assets is that really going to get us back to the tournament? We have a better chance of getting back there as soon as next season by building the best roster with the best culture fits we can get. We need to rebuild our reputation in the right pools of talent, good culture adds and elite players. You need more than a check to get back in with the players that help you win championships. Maybe Gerry has plans and is able to sell to these players why the fact that it's only his 3rd season as a head coach and 1st at the power conference level that he is the right coach for them over more established coaches.

Don’t give that account 30 seconds of time. In the meantime actual news that’s interesting was the note from SUFan44 about another high scoring mid major wing visiting that’s off everyone’s radar as much of portal season has been overall for Gerry.

I remember under Red that the portal signings were silent and out of nowhere. Wondering if GMac has the same philosophy. The 3M dude was a name I never heard before. I am willing to be patient and see what happens. Makes no sense to save money for next year.
Pay to play in this era of college basketball

Realizing now that I left the best part out of my message earlier. Was cramming it in between some things 😀.

Word was that Cox popped down for a visit from Colgate. So that part of the tweet is correct. My apologies, thought I already posted that.

As for “saving” NIL money, I have heard none of that and believe that is someone making an inference based on who we are pursuing.

@HeavyOnCuse on Twitter. Give him a follow.

So say in this instance the burner account is accurate. So Gerry should get guys that don't fit what he is trying to build just to make sure he spends every penny of the NIL budget?
Like half of college basketball is in the portal.

If he can't find quality "fits" his coaching approach is broken.

I think Kentucky will be a team to watch if they whiff on some of these other guard targets. Other than I think we’re in pretty good shape?

Brant Byers fits the mold. From SouthCentral PA, leading scorer on a great Miami (OH) team, has good measurables for SF and shot 40% from three.

I’d love this to be the guy but he’s their second leading scorer… either way hope the wing is a good and can shoot it and thus commits.

Most of the fanbase here operates on a different calendar. Every commitment to another team = the sky is falling. Was waiting for people to call Gmac a failure because we couldn't get Cadeau to come here next year.

If this is what truly ends up happening, my gut was correct on what could end up happening. They will not pay for a non culture fit and they don't necessarily have the credibility yet to land the top targets that are culture fits. Everyone needs to relax with the expectations of contending for a national title in year 1. If we do, great. But providing evidence of a competent organization with a real culture and development program at this level is the main objective for year 1. Also by taking this approach, you can leave the door open to have the cash to get involved with any late bloomers later this spring in the USA or abroad that seems to happen every year.
Nobody - not one person in this board - is expecting to compete for a national championship in year 1. All I’ve heard is we want to make the tournament again.

We do not have the luxury that waiting for anything. A bad year one dampens enthusiasm and trust from potential transfer/recruits and donors.

I believe Gerry knows this, and anyone pushing a source that says we are “pocketing” NIL or waiting for next year is massively suspect.

The histrionics here are a bit much. Syracuse is the only school in the ACC with committed transfers at the moment. There’s been no movement. 13 of the top 100 is committed and we have one of them.

But he sucks and won’t be able to start because he played at Siena so that doesn’t count
