Louisville thinks they’ll get Blackwell now too ….. on top of Bidunga and Shelstad
We need to be competing with Louisville. Ok that we're not Kentucky or Duke as we never were, but SU fans should not accept being 4th or 5th tier. 2nd tier or bust.

SU is not going to throw 20 million to build a basketball roster. It’s not financially sustainable. Unfortunately if this is now the new normal we will have to wait until certain universities bankrupt themselves trying to win.

Will be real interesting to see if they pull it off. I know as of a few days ago they were considered the odd man out in his recruitment but were trying to weasel their way back in. My uneducated guess would be that he ends up at Duke.

Signing these guys guarantees them nothing. Kansas and Kentucky have gone this route multiple years and haven’t got out of the first weekend.

I agree. They won the portal and not much else. But I'm saying I want SU to see itself in Tier 2 going forward and do anything necessary to get there and stay there, but I'm afraid SU sees itself more as a Tier 4 or 5 program and won't try to return to its former glory. There's multiple factors that go into consistently being great, including elite coaching, great player evaluation, and high budget. I hope SU has the desire to do it.

That's indeed what they are shooting for. I think people need to take a breath and see who we ultimately get.

Seems like the money keeps coming so I don't know about bankruptcy, but more likely we'll need to see laws passed to stabilize things. Can't happen soon enough IMO.

I've been preaching patience for the portal - look at what I've said at the other place. I think Gerry's still going to get a couple big splashes, and guys who the board thought were starters are going to come off the bench. I think that's his intention.

What I'm saying isn't about this portal haul, just what SU's shown over the years from my perspective.

Exactly and quite honestly nothing about NIL is sustainable long term but our approach is more logical. Just wait and see if Louisville doesn’t have the season they want….

Also most of what’s been happening with this staff has not emerged until there is a visit or commitment. The back and forth stuff you see with some programs is wild and often changing daily. The PC targets have created a buzz and a bunch of fake confidence in some of their targets.

IMO and I will get heat for this statement but if Louisville is good this year it’s bad for the game of college basketball.

I heard he got over 3 million. Syracuse isn't paying that for a single player, they can't
At some point, we have to get out of this mindset. This is how we fall behind and stay behind. The amount of times we've been involved but cant close the deal is maddening. We aren't going to moneyball our way to the tournament!

Then you better start donating.

We’ve already crossed that bridge for it to make a difference. The appetite for keeping the current pace will be up to those programs and their supporters for every mediocre season or early tournament crash out to be worthy of being a top 10 spender.

We need to be in that camp of building a winning tournament team with multiple key players having at least one year of eligibility left and then pursue a higher rate of retention so we can add a couple high value guys every year while maintaining as much of a core as possible. Success means more $$ and a better sales pitch to bigger targets every year.
