Class of 2026 2025-26 Portal

The haves aren’t continuing to separate themselves. The opposite is happening. The difference between the number 1 class and the number 50 class is tighter today than it was just 5 years ago.
That’s why it’s so impressive seeing syracuses last 3 classes.

It makes me laugh every time someone here acts like the sky’s falling and Fran can’t retain or coach his guys.

You have to be able to do things with the talent, but the ceiling for most teams in the P4 is higher than it's ever been before. It's more NFL level parity now than ever. System, development, and culture is what will set programs year to year apart moving forward. Remember when everyone thought Clemson and Penn State were going to be so good this year with all their returning production. They didn't necessarily regress as much as everyone think they did. Everyone around them got a lot better and they weren't that much better than the competition the previous year to begin with, they just had enough to put them over the top to make the playoffs and for Penn State to make a run to the semifinal.

The margins is so small at the power conference level that when our QB level dropped when Collins took over from Angeli, we turned from what was arguably an ACC contender into the worst Power 4 conference team. Fran had Syracuse looking like a playoff level football team that would've been dangerous with the offense we had at the end of the 2024 season, we just didn't have the resume to justify inclusion.

I totally disagree. A quick glance at 2-4-7 shows that this years #1 overall class is 10 points wider than the #50 class from 5 years ago. Once you factor in the portal rankings + HS rankings it’s the same 20-30 schools that are always there, but with less holes. Off the top of my head the only programs who have really elevated themselves in the new NIL/portal era are Indiana and Texas Tech because they have the war chests to compete.

What moneyball programs have elevated themselves in this new era?

Per 247 in 2026, the overall (Transfers and High School) number 1 class right now is Texas with 348.61 points while the number 50 class is Kansas State with 231.04 points, a difference of 117.57 points (hope my math is right, subject to change). I'm going to use 2022 since that is when they started tracking overall class rank between transfers and high school, the number 1 class was Texas A&M with 333.33 points while the number 50 class was Iowa State with 207.54 points, a 125.79 point difference. We will see where the numbers end up for 2026. So perhaps more talent is making it's way up to the power conferences via the transfer portal, while at the same time the margins are shrinking. I'm not arguing it's completely equal, but in general it's shrinking. The factory programs 2s and 3s are less talented collectively than they used to be, though still very talented.
