2025 Baseball Hall of Fame Candidates (Main Ballot)

All those potential HoFers, and the Yankees have just ONE world series title in 20 years?
 
Probably only one absolute lock to get in this year. Although Wagner seems very likely - at 74% heading into his 10th year. I assume some voters who don't have him in, are going to relent since its his final year and he has lots of support. If I was voter that is what I would do -- I don't see Wagner as a HOF'r, but I'm going to support him when he is so close and in his final year.

Who am I putting in if I was a voter:
1) Ichiro (Lock)
2) Billy Wagner (as noted above, don't think he is a HOF personally, but if 74% do, I'm going to ensure he gets to 75%)

The debatable ones for me(or ones that aren't immediately thrown out) are:
Abreu
Andruw Jones
Felix Hernandez
Torii Hunter
Andy Pettitte
Manny Ramirez
Arod
K-Rod
Chase Utley
CC Sabathia

Of all those, the only clear in to me is Sabathia.
I would add others, but need to think it through.

Baseball playoffs are a crapshoot.
Plus not every opponent is the Minnesota Twins!

Wagner's gonna be close again.

If it were up to me:
Ichiro
Beltran (yes, despite the Trashtros scandal). I think he eventually gets in but that's gonna stick in the electorate's craw for awhile, I think.

Sabathia
Andruw Jones
Utley

Who gets in this year: Ichiro, Rollins, Sabathia.

I think Utley gets in eventually but probably not this year.

IMO It's silly to wait to vote in a guy because he's not a "first ballot HOF", but next year's ballot won't have any intriguing first-year guys so I could see the voters dragging their feet on this person or that.

Give me Ichiro and ARod and call it a class.

And, I guess I might be ok if the Classic Committee added Luis Tiant because he was definitely a Classic!! Anybody willing to turn his back on a guy looking for a hit, is ok in my book.

Rollins was 14% last year (his 3rd on the ballot). Too far back to ever get close.

I think your probably right on Beltran. Beltran went from 48% in year 1, to 57% in year 2. My guess is that by year 5/year 6 on the ballot he gets in.

Wagner will be fine - at 73.8% going into year 10, there will be enough people that relent.

I'm one of those guys that would be picky on first year candidates if I had a vote. I just like the distinction it provides -- although I can see why some think this is silly. Sabathia is a borderline first year for me, but after that I would put him in,for sure,

Alex Rodriguez
Billy Wagner
Andruw Jones
CC Sabathia

Ichiro: Was well above average at everything with the exception of power and taking walks. Elite hitter, baserunner, defender, arm strength. Hideo Nomo was the first and very important, but Ichiro normalized the migration of top talent to MLB. His career hit total 3089 will always fascinate me for many reasons, while acknowledging he also had 1278 hits in the Japanese League.

A-Rod: Still torn. He's a brilliant idiot. Why did he do it? This is the first year I would put him in for this honor. I also think I am ready to go on Bonds too.

Billy Wagner: To me, he's an obvious choice. i have him as the 4th-best reliever of all-time and arguably the most dominant. Please, ... not an affront on Mariano, but Wagner was the nastiest of them all. He had 23 more K's than Rivera in 380 fewer innings. Yes, I have #42 as the best ever, but Wagner was perhaps the purest filth MLB has ever seen. Amazingly, Billy Wagner, for those that do not know the story, was born as a righthanded thrower. A broken arm as a youth changed the course of history.

Andrew Jones: A five-tool force for a decade+ on an iconic Braves team. He surprisingly fell off considerably from there, but not enough for me. He's an easy "yes" for me, likely as the best defensive CF of all-time. Okay, maybe Mays. But he was a gazelle out there. Rarely had to strain to cut off the gaps. Smoltz and Glavine should offer to pay for his flight, lodging and meals in Cooperstown.

CC: Not in love with this pick. 251 wins. Consistent force. I suppose this signals the lowering of my own standards and that baseball is to some small degree broken. That's not fair. Let's just say the game has been manipulated to the point where pitchers like CC now stand out. I also acknowledge i have to seriously think about Pettitte. Not this year on my ballot, but his time seems likely to come for me.

I hate that crap when a voter uses it to make a statement or has an agenda. Either take it seriously or let someone else do it.

Petite admitted to steroid usage. You can believe the “one time” claim or not, but by the standards applied to less likable fellows, he should be out.

This probably won't ever be revealed. The rat who snubbed Jeter is probably going to stay quiet also.
There's no requirement of voters to disclose who they voted for.

in 2016, there was a vote to make it mandatory to reveal your votes, but that was shut down by the Board of Directors of the Hall of Fame:

19 years in the Big Leagues and he still didn't get to 300 wins! Only had to average 16 wins to get there with that long a tenure.

300 wins and 20 wins has become inversely proportionate to 25 HRs, 3000 hits as the way the game is played has changed.
