2025 MLB Season

I was pretty calm most of the game as I watched with my dad. A few bombs, quite a bit of clapping but fairly even keel.

But during thet Clement fly ball out in the 9th, my heart was racing and I had to step outside and get some cool air for about 30 seconds between innings.

Sick way to lose, man. That really stings.

What a sh__t ending
3 for 17 with runners in scoring position and 14 men LOB. they had every opportunity to win this game. Just seemed like external forces were not going to allow it to happen. going back to that wedge ball at the fence base last night. jays had men on 2nd and nobody out in the 7th, 8th, and 10th and didnt score. they had bases loaded and 1 out in the 9th win it all, and didnt score. pathetic really.

But I heard they were immune to that sort of thing because they make so much contact.

I’m not a real dodger hater. I know there are certainly some out there. I can only think how much they would’ve loved for the season to end if Pages and Hernandez had collided and the ball dropped.

We lost but so much so drama in this game.

they are immune to prolonged slumps cause of the contact. It doesn’t protect you from hitting into outs

I agree the Jays had many opportunities to score enough runs to win. But I'd put the onus for that less on the Jays hitting and more on the Dodgers pitching. They were good when they had to be. Meanwhile Jays pitching served up gopher balls in what, 3 of the last 4 innings? There's the critical difference, just IMHO.

I hate the Dodgers, as you should. Blue Monday and now this!

the team that gamed the system needs about 20 things to go right to win this series and it all happens,

kinda like NE all those years.
One thing every opposing manager should get in the umps face about next year is Ohtani getting extra time to get to mound that no other pitcher gets.

IKF totally screwed up on that play at the plate. Cant believe he didnt get a bigger lead. And my god you need to go full out Pete Rose and slide in with your hands.
Can take the player out of the Cashman / Boone system but can't take Cashman / Boone out of the player once infected

As a Jays fan it’s been an extremely fun and exciting season.

But a very disappointing ending.

Game was managed fine we just could t execute with runners on, or third and one out or less situations
Looking back that you didn't have an elite closer was there talk in Toronto at the trade deadline about going all in for Mason Miller or Jhohan Duran?

Or even run in straight through like first base. Estimates by some are that he could have had his jump lead as the pitch is coming in be somewhere around 8 feet longer.

It was wild that he was so unaware / asleep on the play. Chris Black also put out a stat that the ratio of ground balls to the first base side vs liners to the third base in Varsho's career is 415 to 1. Protecting against the liner to the third baseman when the guy has 1 line drive out to third baseman in over 200 at bats is crazy.

Many plays could have won us the World Series, but to lose on such a fundamentally poor play that was totally within our control frustrates the bleep out of me.

I think they were content to use their assets to add mid to high leverage relievers, but didn’t want to give a huge packagefor an elite closer or at least a perceived elite closer.

They did ultimately add two relievers of the deadline Varland and Dominquez both good but neither elite or closer material

I I know from the way their analytics department looks at things they didn’t want to give up multiple good assets for a closer

I also think they thought they would have a good bullpen more through depth throughout the bullpen rather than quality right at the backend closer position

Beyond adding Verland and Dominguez, they were expecting to get Yimi Garcia and possibly Nick Sandlin back from the DL. Garcia did come back for a few games, but he got hurt again right away and Sandler never made it back.

Furthermore, Brandon little and Yariel Rodriguez had been extremely good relievers in the first half of the season. They were both probably in the top 20 relievers in the American league in the first half even though they were not closers. but they regressed heavily probably because they were overused in the first half and little‘s approach was figured out. Rodriguez was not even on the World Series roster a little was not trusted anymore.

So in retrospect, adding an elite closer could have make the difference, but that wasn’t gonna be a fit with management philosophy. And thee we will figure it out with high quantity of quality relievers approach did not work out either.

The geez did use a borderline top 100 prospect to get Shane Bieber so they did spend some real assets to upgrade their pitching at the deadline and we don’t get the first round by without acquiring Shane Bieber so they sort of did their job

I rewatched parts of last night‘s game today

Rewatchedthe ninth inning, in particular the bottom of the ninth inning which made me go outside for fresher air after having been fairly calm during the game. Heck I stayed fairly calm, even when Hoffman gave up the game, dying home run only because I sort of expected Hoffman to screw up.

While re-watching the game, I thought back to the fact that there was five moments in the bottom of the ninth that I thought or anticipated that this was the moment that we were winning the World Series

Number one was that 3-0 fly ball that vlad. It seemed really good off contact at the moment of contact

Number two was the moment varsho put the ball into play. It was a hard grinder and then seeing Rojas having to contort his body and sort of double pump to get the throw hom.

Number three was when they showed the replay of Will Smith not touching home plate I was thinking we’re gonna win this game by video replay. Ultimately we did see that he got his toe down just in time.

Number four was the moment of contact fir Ernie Clement’s long flyball. It seemed like it could go deep enough to be a homer or be a hit off the wall.

Number five was after realizing the ball would not be a home run when you see Kiki taking a struggling route to get to that fly ball … you then notice Pages come out of nowhere onto the screen and then you think hell they’re going to collide with each other and the ball is going to fall.

Worse gut punch festival of games in history of North American sports when you factor in 3/4 losses were absolute nut shots. Dodgers fans must have felt they were legitimately done about ten times during the last couple games.. and they somehow escaped every time . As a jays fan, I thought we were done once. And guess what, I was 1/1.

You can’t have a closer that gives up 15 HR in 68 innings if you consider yourself a contender. Just too many. They need to improve the position and kick Hoffman down a rung, although having an 8th inning guy who gives up that many HR isn’t ideal either
